  Back to profiles

I have returned to working as an artist after a long career as a Mental Health Nurse and have rediscovered the joy that creating art can bring. I work primarily with printmaking, working from a group studio in the Rossendale Valley in Lancashire. My surroundings, amongst the valleys on the edges of the Pennines, inspire my use of foraged, natural materials in my work.

Much of my work focuses on creating large collagraph prints in small, limited editions. Each individual print is hand-coloured with watercolours or inks to give unique versions of each image. The collagraph plate plays an important role in the whole process and is created with a view that it is also an Artwork in it's own right. This is leading me towards larger and more sculptural plates, pushing the limits of my printing process and drawing me towards new materials to achieve my goals. I try to capture the serenity and delicacy of small parts of a landscape often found on the fringes, the boundaries and the marginal areas we pass on a daily walk.
