Apocqueerlypse
Deadline: 31/07/2019City: London | Country: United Kingdom | Marian Casey
The world is ending. Let's celebrate its greatest hits.
Science says we have 10 years to turn it around before we fully screw the pooch. In case they're right, we want to throw a fabulous goodbye party celebrating the achievements of our best and brightest.*
SXRVXVE is throwing an 'Apocqueerlypse' banger of a night out in London in August. Think: video art party with all the best tunes from our pop, soul, and hip hop queens, and a celebration of under-appreciated icons. No decade is off limits: this is the 'Best Of' edition of the human race.
Just like the Berlin Dadaists in Nazi times, we're not accepting the end of the world without an absurdist, political art party and a few drinks in our hands. Like all of our nights out, the event will be a fully immersive, artist (slash tequila) -driven space.
So we're seeking artists, especially those centering Queer and POC voices and narratives, who want to help us celebrate the last several thousand years of human creation. We want to highlight the triumphs of trash culture, pop culture, forgotten culture, queer culture, oppressed culture etc - so if you want to celebrate the Mona Lisa, that's fine, but if you want to celebrate David Bowie's fake artist, 19th century lesbian art, Violet Chachki's tartan jumpsuit, or Cher's twitter, even better.
As this is a video art party, we are primarily looking for video artists. But if you make any other kind of work that you'd be excited to show, please submit! Remember that this is a night out, so the work has to be able to be exhibited in a club (nothing fragile).
*We're not going fully fatalistic yet. Please vote, contact your political representatitives, agitate, volunteer, and donate. We'll have a choice of a couple great charities fighting to save the world available for your generous donations at the event and shared in advance.
