AUCTION ACHTUNG! is a brokering service event, setup for Live Artists to sell their work on an open and global market and also to a culturally appropriate audience at MPA-B in Berlin, 5th May 2014. 

Two artists Adam Young & Sara Zaltash have created this auction in an effort to bring focus to the issues faced by artists more concerned with the production of ephemeral art than the residual artifacts that are left behind. More than simple intellectual property or commodity, the live artist is able to offer art that must be encountered and experienced at the moment of its production. What value does this hold?

The year 2014 marks the 15th anniversary of the founding of the Live Art Development Agency in London. All over the world, as Live Art has gathered support across cultural and academic institutions, the ways that Live Artists share their work has become increasingly systematized, professionalized and monetized. More and more, Live Artists show work at festivals, platforms, scratch nights, galleries and other formally organized events. When they do, they are often expected to sign contracts in which they agree to hand over rights to their work.

What are these rights? What are they worth? Who is protecting their value?

AUCTION ACHTUNG throws such questions into the spotlight, being neither for nor against, but instead taking action towards an unfolding discourse. AUCTION ACHTUNG is a live event, a live act, a live auction! In the spirit of the aforementioned and because there is no prescriptive format for live art, we ask artists to draw up their own contracts and terms of sale for their work.
