Bankley's annual Open Call show is back! We invite artists to apply to exhibit in our headline exhibition, Bankley Open 2023. Artists at any point in their career and working in any discipline can apply. Approximately 15 artists will be chosen by our panel of judges to take part in the group show in September.

From the exhibition the judges will then make selections for:
First prize: £300 cash prize, a solo exhibition at Bankley with a £200 production fee
Second prize: £200 cash prize
The Bankley Open Exhibition opening night and award ceremony will take place on Friday 8th September 2023, 6-9pm, which will also coincide with our Annual Open Studios. The exhibition will continue to run every Saturday + Sunday from 12pm to 4pm until 24th September.
ENTRY GUIDELINES
You can enter up to TWO artworks. Include up to four images of each, and a brief description if desired. Please also include information on the medium, year and size.
This year we are trialing a pay-as-you-can-afford entry. Please refer to our suggestion entry fees
Employed/disposable income: £10
Student/low income: £5
Unemployed/in receipt of benefits: Free entry
Bankley Studios + Gallery is not publicly funded and is run by volunteers. If you can afford to pay an entry fee, this will go towards the prizes and production of the exhibition. Any surplus is reinvested into future programming.
Please pay via the Paypal link in the application before submitting (let us know if there is any discrepancy between your Artist and Paypal name). If you would prefer to make a bank transfer let us know.
Bankley Studios + Gallery will not take a commission from the sale of any artwork during the exhibition.
KEY DATES
Submission deadline: 9th July 2023 (midnight)
Notification of selection: by 19th July 2023
Delivery of exhibiting artworks: 31st August, 1st, 2nd September 2023 (times tbc)
Exhibition opening night and awards ceremony: 8th September 2023, 6-9pm
Exhibition running: 9th - 24th September
Collection of exhibiting artworks: between 25 - 30th September
Unfortunately, we do not have storage so are unable to keep artworks beyond this date
TERMS + CONDITIONS
By submitting this application, applicants are agreeing to the conditions of entry, as listed below, including:
By entering Bankley Open 2023, Artists are agreeing that their work will be available for the dates stated in the application form.
Artists take full responsibility for the delivery and shipping of any selected work(s).
Artists are hereby agreeing to allow Bankley Studios + Gallery to use an image of their artwork on publicity associated with Bankley Open 2023, unless otherwise arranged.
Artists must also guarantee that by submitting the work they are of their own origination, and that they hold all moral and intellectual property rights in that work.
Artwork can be for sale, and Bankley Studios + Gallery do not charge commission.
Bankley Studios & Gallery are not liable for any loss or damage incurred to the artwork if shortlisted and exhibited, and advises all artists to seek their own insurance.
All proceeds from the Bankley Open 2023 are used for the prizes, promotion and exhibition of the competition. Any additional funds are donated to Bankley Studios + Gallery for the continuation of the programme of exhibitions.
Whilst the judges have been selected and have agreed to take part in selecting work for Bankley Open 2023 and awarding the prizes, under exceptional circumstances Bankley Studios + Gallery hold the right to adjust the line-up at any time throughout the Open Call.
2D submissions: Please ensure that all wall-mounted artworks are ready to be hung and install descriptions are provided.
3D/ 4D submissions: any sculpture/installation/video/projection requirements must be made by arrangement.
In order to pass through the doorway and up the stairs, the maximum length of its smallest side must be no greater than 180cm. And the max length of its longest side must be no greater than 210cm. Please contact us if you have any questions about this.

Bankley Gallery is situated on the first floor of an old mill building, which unfortunately is currently only accessible by stairs. The building is located just off the main road, with regular bus services from Manchester and Stockport, and is around 450m from Levenshulme train station. The station has no lift and both platforms are only accessible by stairs.
