This showcase brings together talented Black artisans based in Yorkshire, whose bodies of work have been carefully curated to deliver an awe-inspiring day. Artisans will share their experiences of the art scene and their chosen creative fields, and invite visitors to the event to view their incredible work. Throughout the showcase there will be artist talks, demonstrations, live art and taster workshops. The event culminates with a Q&A session between artisans and attendees.

As Black artisans, we can often be the only person of African and Caribbean heritage showcasing work at an event. Black Artisans – "You Are Not Alone" is two-fold in concept; it is an event to extend our support to our chosen exhibiting Black artisans, in an environment very different to the usual one, which can be very isolating, whilst also inspiring ALL new and emerging makers to carve out a professional creative career.

We are shaping the event to be a celebratory occasion, a showcase of Black excellence that illuminates the artisan's brilliance. We want artisans to share their passion and expertise for the pieces they take joy from creating. It will be an opportunity to learn more about their own personal journeys and see their wonderful art created and displayed.

In addition, artisans will be tasked with producing an art piece to be exhibited for sale at: "Inspirational – An Artist & Maker Exhibition".

Their brief, to create an art piece (functional or decorative) that takes influence from African & Caribbean Art techniques and processes.

There will be a payment of £100 for each showcasing artisan and £100 to create a special art piece to be included for sale in the exhibition. An award will be presented to the artisan whose submitted art piece best fits the exhibition brief and an award for the best display.
