Black Box Project Open Call October 2019 - June 2020 exhibition/project/live art programme UCA Farnham Campus. Black Box is a project space located at the University for the Creative Arts Farnham Campus, Surrey U.K.

The space was initiated by the BA and MA Fine Art programmes based at the University Campus in 2016. Selected by students, we commission established and emerging artists to present a single work within the space for a period of up to two weeks.

Previous artists have included Felicity Hammond, Gavin Turk, David Batchelor, Steven Gee, Alice Jacobs,  Ben McDonnell, Chloe Windsor, Hollie Miller and Craig Scott, Billy Fraser, Jeannie Driver, Matt Mahoney Page, James Paddock, Joel Chan, Mathew Mahoney Paige, Emma Critchley, Sophie Mallet, Soroya Fartha, Paula Smolarska and Hilde Krone Huse.

We are currently providing this open call for our October 2019 to June 2020 programme.

We are interested in proposals that actively engage space as a key element of the work and that explore current theoretical and/or political debates though this can be broadly interpreted. The work must act as a discursive catalyst for public and students alike.

We are as much interested in the aesthetic aspects of the work as we are the potential for the work to exist beyond the space through discussion. As part of the project we invite artists to provide a short talk on the work. We are particularly interested in recent  graduates and practices including performance and film.  Importantly we aim to promote dynamic and challenging projects.

We ask artists to provide a 300 word maximum description of your proposed project, a link to your website and a single image attached (max 1mb) through CuratorSpace.

Your submission will be reviewed by a group of selected students from the Fine Art department at UCA Farnham.

Each project receives assistance with install and equipment where necessary. We offer a fee of £200 for each successful proposal. We can in exceptional circumstances assist with building of structures. We aim to provide all artists selected with A/V support throughout install.

DEADLINE for proposals is Sunday 6th October 2019 midnight GMT.

The space description is as follows:

  • Measurements: 12ft x 8ft
  • Layout: Black exterior, Interior can be adapted.
  • x4 Power sockets 4 Phase Power.
