A fantastic opportunity to complete the artistic vision set out by community members in Bramley (Leeds), following a community Co-design process at Bramley Baths (a Grade 2 listed Edwardian bath house).

Bramley Baths is a stunning Grade II listed building that has been at the heart of its community since 1904. Bramley Baths is the last remaining Edwardian bath house in Leeds and is one of only a small number of community-owned swimming pools in the country.

This project is a result of the #morethanapool National Lottery Heritage Fund project, which, alongside investing in the physical building, focuses on gathering stories and using creativity to strengthen ties to the community of Bramley.

As part of this, Bramley Baths has conducted a community co-design project alongside a local artist, in order to build a cache of designs, motifs, patterns, colour palettes, stories and significant figures.

These have been developed to celebrate the building, its history, its elaborate Arts and Crafts design style, the memories imbued within its walls, and the generations of communities that have graced its facilities.

On completion of the co-design process, the successful artist will be required to use a large selection of the material produced by the co-design group as the basis for the mural.

From the applications received through this call-out, we will shortlist 3 artists. These shortlisted artists will then go to a public vote, with the final artist commission being selected by people in Bramley.

We will provide a small allocation of funds of £100 for each shortlisted artist to produce a mural prototype, which will then be presented to the public to vote on.

This Prototype fee is expected to cover materials and artist fee.

The unsuccessful artists from the public vote will not be taken forward to develop their mural idea alongside Bramley Baths. 

The prototypes will be owned by the artist and returned to the artist on completion of the public vote. 

Bramley Baths will be allowed to use the image produced in social media and promotional materials. 

The final mural will be painted on a sequence of plywood partition boards at the end of the car park of Bramley Baths.

The final commission is subject to a successful National Lottery Heritage Fund bid in 2027. The fee for this final work will be discussed with management at Bramley Baths. If successful, work to deliver the mural would start in late 2027, tbc.
