(Back / On / Beyond) Margate Pride is inviting applications to participate in the second BRINK residency this summer. BRINK is a seven day residency for LGTBQIA+ artists and creatives working across varied disciplines; where all creative practice is welcome. BRINK encourages cultivation and generation through collaboration and negotiation. Where different practices meet and lived experiences are shared, where new worlds appear in the creative collision.

CONCEPT

The residency invites participants to explore and respond to notions of the BRINK: being on, coming back from, breaching, going beyond. The BRINK is a destination, physical and psychological, emotional and for some spiritual. It is a threshold site, a verge, a transition in a multitude of possibilities.

LGBTQIA+ lives exist in these liminal spaces, dualistic places that are often paradoxical and othering, impulsive and theoretical.

Using sharing as a vehicle for collaboration, what unknowns will be manifested as the outcome of this exploration and how will the geographical site impact the participants making; as Margate sits on the edge of the British isle, on the Brink of regeneration and coastal dilapidation via socioeconomics and climate change.

DATES

10th august to 17th August, with Turner Contemporary opening event on the 10th August, and Margate Pride on 13th August.

STRUCTURE

The residency takes place over seven days, starting with a welcome workshop with local queer artist Kavel Rafferty, who runs Hotel Michele, that will generate works to be exhibited in the project space on Pride day.

Participants are invited to facilitate sharing workshops for each other on the 2nd and 3rd days. Participants are invited to hold a sharing and/or exhibition on the final evening of the residency which is directed by the participants through their experience. This could take many different shapes.
