The Universes Poetry is an emerging literary and arts journal dedicated to capturing the experience of awe. For our second magazine issue, we are exploring the theme of the ocean / marine creatures.
Awe is an overwhelming feeling of wonder of reverence. It can lead to a sense of self-transcendence, where individuals feel connected to something larger than themselves.
Awe is commonly inspired by nature, art, music, science, spiritual or religious experiences.
Science suggests that feelings of awe can increase humility, strengthen social bonds, activate regions of the brain associated with empathy and altruism and promote concern for the environment.
Therein lies our wider goal - to promote climate awareness. Please keep this in mind when choosing what to submit!
At a time when feelings towards the climate are governed by anger, guilt and shame, we believe it is increasingly more important to harness the power of positive emotion.
Although we are based in the UK, we publish artists and writers worldwide.
We work hard to publish emerging artists as well as established ones.
We offer Instagram showcases for artists included in the issue (although please note that we have only a small following, although we are growing rapidly!) and will be inviting a portion of people who are accepted for an interview.
We charge £4 per submission of 5 pieces of art.
A portion of any profits will then be divided amongst contributors who are accepted for publication.
We are unable to calculate this in advance as we do not know how many submissions we will receive, but please be aware this will likely be a token amount.
Each accepted contributor will receive publication in the issue and a free digital copy of the magazine.
We also post artist spotlights on our Instagram (collectively as a group and some individuals) to highlight your great work - please note we only have a small following of just over 300 people, although we are growing!
Occasionally, we offer an invitation to interview for some contributors.
