Submit your proposal for a temporary exhibition at The Art House. Exhibitions are presented six times a year to coincide with the Wakefield Artwalk and are available to Art House studio holders and members only.

Please find more details about The Art House membership here: www.the-arthouse.org.uk/get-involved/membership

There are several spaces around the building for which you are invited to propose a temporary exhibition. If you are not already familiar with the building and would like to view the spaces before making an application please contact Joe Legg, Operations Administrator at joseph@the-arthouse.org.uk.

Temporary exhibition spaces include:

  • Collaborator Space (former reception, lower ground floor)
  • Main Reception
  • Breakout Space (next to Project Space)
  • Project Space (former Team Office)

In response to studio holders’ feedback, we would especially welcome proposals for spaces in the central area of the building to ensure that the displays are seen by the maximum number of visitors.

However, during Open Studio events (May/November), we will also be able to include the area outside M4 and M5 (Old Library, LG Floor), and the area outside M1 (Original Art House, 1st Floor). Subject to availability, we may also be able to open up vacant studios as temporary exhibition spaces. We hope that this will encourage visitors to circulate around the building during Open Studio evenings.

If you would like to make a proposal for a space that is not mentioned above, please feel free to do so. The only exception to this is the Gallery (formerly, Project Space), which is used for residency exhibitions.

Timeline

There will be two calls for proposals each year, one in July and one in January.

The first deadline for proposals will be Monday 17 July 2017.

Successful applicants for the first round will be notified by the beginning of August and a schedule for installation and de-installation will be agreed.

Please note that we will not be accepting proposals sent by email, so please ensure that you use Curator Space to make your submission.

Budget

Each selected proposal will be awarded an artist's fee of £250 and a materials budget of up to £100.

Assessment criteria

We are looking for proposals from studio holders and members that will:

  • Create new and high quality work
  • Develop individual artistic practice and exhibition presentation skills
  • Seek to understand and develop existing audiences and reach out to new visitors

Proposals

You will be asked to provide the following:

  • your proposed exhibition title
  • your artist statement (max. 300 words)
  • your exhibition proposal (max. 500 words)
  •  your CV

In addition, you will have the option to explain your proposed location within The Art House, to include a link to your website, and to upload images, audio or video files in support of your proposal.

Selection panel

We are also issuing a call for studio holders and members to be part of the selection panel, helping to make decisions about which proposals are realised.

The panel members will need to consider the proposals against the criteria, contribute to the decision making process and give feedback to any unsuccessful applicants.

The panel will consist of a maximum of five people, with representation by studio holders/members and The Art House programme team.

Due to potential conflicts of interest, if you are submitting a proposal for consideration you will not be able to participate in the selection process for that round. We will re-open applications for the panel ahead of the January deadline.

If you would like to be considered for the panel this time, please send an expression of interest to Emily Riddle, Programme Assistant (emily@the-arthouse.org.uk) by Monday 19 June.

Please include the following:

  • a brief explanation (max 300 words) of why you would like to be involved in the selection process
  • what your availability is likely to be in the week commencing Monday 17 July

We look forward to receiving your proposals and applications for the selection panel in due course.
