Celebrating Regionality Opportunity for four selected artists to exhibit at Messums West. This is an open call for an exhibition of the vibrant work created in West Wiltshire.

Four Artists in February: Celebrating Regionality 

For February 2024 we are dedicating space at Messums West to celebrate the vibrant work of our regional community of creatives who live or work within 15 miles of the gallery. The heart of the galleries at that time is the Restaurant and, on the walls through February, will be four exhibitions by four selected artists whose work informs and celebrates regional distinctiveness.  

Starting 1 February 2-24, each exhibition will run from Thursday to Monday with set up from 12:00 pm on Tuesday. 

Entry is by open call with a judging panel of our curatorial team and two external artists who will be announced shortly.

About Messums:

MESSUMS ORG is a collaborative environment for artists, collectors and thinkers.  It is a virtual and physical network for the presentation and engagement with creative expression across artistic genres.  

We sell art, we fund creativity.  

Started as Messums Wiltshire in 2016 in a 13th Century Tithe Barn by Johnny Messum, the business has established venues and arts communities in the West and East of England connected with an exhibiting space in London. It continues to evolve the role of the gallery from a presentational space to one that offers multiple ways to access, experience, understand and engage with the creative process and its outcomes.  

Terms:  

The gallery will undertake: Installation and sales with a 30% commission

Artist to assist with destall and making good the walls with supplied equipment leaving the space at the end of the show as found.  

Important dates:

15 December: Submissions close and 6 January: Selection announcement.  

If selected:  

Three weeks before the show: Submission of promotional material including titled images, dimensions and prices.  

Two weeks before the show: A half-day site visit introduction to the space.

Install Tuesday from 12:00 pm 

Opening Thursday 12:00 midday 

Optional private view/ party: Friday 6-9 pm 

Optional talk Saturday 10:00-11:00 am 

Take down   4-6:30 pm Monday.

Criteria:  

This is an open call to artists who live or work within 15 miles of Tisbury, Wiltshire, UK.

The call is open for two-dimensional or relief work (sorry - sculptors next time!).

We are looking for artists who have previous exhibiting experience.

All works must be able to hang on the walls of the Restaurant and must not exceed 40 inches hight.

Please accept that not everyone can be included in this initial programme.

It is not a judgment on your practice if your work is not selected.  

There is always next time as we are looking to build this concept into a rolling programme for 2024/5.
