Applications are now open for makers to join our curated pottery market, hosted inside Sunken Studio, a working ceramics studio in Leeds.

Market dates: 31 October & 1 November 2026

This is not a general craft market. It’s a celebration of clay, bringing together functional pottery and tableware, vessels, decorative pieces and sculpture.

After more than a year of member-led pottery markets, we’re opening applications beyond our studio community for the first time.

All participating makers are invited to a glaze clinic at Sunken Studio before the market. This informal session is an opportunity to troubleshoot glaze issues with our glaze specialists, exchange knowledge and connect with fellow makers ahead of the event.

Located a short walk from Leeds train station and close to The Tetley, visitors will have the opportunity to buy directly from independent makers inside our working studio.

We welcome applications from emerging and established ceramicists.

We’re looking for makers with:

  • A considered ceramic practice
  • A collection of finished work ready for sale


What connects the work is not one particular style, but an attention to process, material and the decisions made along the way. Selection is based on the quality, thought and care behind the work, rather than previous selling experience.

This market is not suitable for seconds or clearance stock. Minimum price guidance is in place to support the value of handmade ceramics and reflect the time, skill and care involved in making.

The fee includes your display space, promotion through Sunken Studio’s website, social media and newsletter, and an invitation to the glaze clinic.

Display spaces (£50 per day, VAT inc.)

Trolley space: Three (minimum) movable shelves (approximately 70 × 60 cm each)
Half bench space: Approximately 120 × 120 cm

Tables and shelving are provided, and you’re welcome to bring additional display materials to personalise your stall.

Applications will be reviewed from 31 August 2026. Applications received after this date may still be considered, subject to availability.

Successful applicants will receive payment details following confirmation. Fees must be paid in advance to secure your place.

All stallholders must hold valid Public Liability Insurance. (Available through CuratorSpace, for example.)

When is the deadline?
Applications close at midnight on 15 September 2026.
Who is eligible for this opportunity?
We welcome applications from ceramic artists and potters at all stages of their practice, including emerging and established makers.

Applications are open to makers creating ceramic work across functional pottery, tableware, vessels, decorative pieces, sculptural work and more experimental forms.
What is included in the fee?
Stalls are £50 per day (including VAT). Makers can apply for one or both days. Your stall fee includes your allocated display space, access to the market, promotion through Sunken Studio channels and an invitation to a glaze clinic session ahead of the event.

Tables and shelves are provided. Makers should bring any additional display equipment, props or materials needed to present their work.
What display spaces are available?
We offer trolley spaces and half-bench spaces.

Trolley spaces include three movable shelves (approximately 70cm x 60cm each) that can be arranged to suit your display.

Half bench spaces are approximately 120cm x 120cm.

Please indicate your preferred option when applying. We will do our best to accommodate requests but cannot guarantee a specific stall type or location.
What are the market opening hours?
The market will be open to visitors from 11:00 am–3:00 pm on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November.
Makers can set up from 10:00 am.
Do I need Public Liability Insurance?
Yes. All stallholders must hold valid Public Liability Insurance.
What are the selection criteria?
We’re looking for:
A considered ceramic practice
High-quality finished work
Clear images showcasing your work
A collection ready to share with visitors

Applications are reviewed based on the quality and suitability of the work for the market. We consider the maker’s approach, images of their work, cohesion of their collection and how the work fits within the overall mix of makers.
Do I need to be present?
Yes. Makers are responsible for setting up, presenting and selling their own work during the market.
Does the location have disabled access?
Sunken Studio is located at street level with one small step at the entrance. A ramp is available for access.

The studio space is accessible once inside, however some doorways, including toilet facilities, may be narrower and may not be suitable for all mobility equipment. If you have any specific access requirements, please get in touch before the event and we’ll be happy to discuss how we can support you.
Are there minimum prices for work sold at the market?
Yes. To support the value of handmade ceramics and ensure the market reflects the time, skill and care involved in making, we ask makers to follow the minimum price guidance below.

Small bowl, dish or vase (under 12cm) - minimum £12
Large cereal bowl, small plate or vase (under 16cm) - minimum £15
Large plate, bowl or vase (over 16cm) - minimum £20
Espresso cups - minimum £18
Mugs - minimum £22

Very small items under 3cm may be considered below this guidance, with a minimum price of £5.
Can I sell seconds or clearance stock?
This market is not intended for seconds, test pieces or clearance stock.

Small variations and marks from the making process are part of handmade ceramics, but all work should be finished and ready to share with visitors. This helps ensure the value of each maker’s work is respected and that no maker’s work is unintentionally devalued.
