For our 2024 Amanda Moriarty Memorial Prize, we are very fortunate to be working with Teign Valley Glass located in Bovey Tracey, Devon who have offered one of our members a fantastic opportunity of a five day residency in its studio

In 2017, Amanda Moriarty, a long serving Board member and Honorary Treasurer of the Contemporary Glass Society, passed away. To celebrate her enthusiasm and encouragment of glassmaking, CGS offer an annual prize in her memory.

Teign Valley Glass has generously donated a five day residency in its studio. This will enble the winner to extend their practice with the assistance of Richard Glass and his team.  The 5 day period will be available between August and October, 2024.  It is anticipated that the winner will use the facilities over a number of weeks rather than in one block of time in order to develop their practice.  For those who require it, Richard Glass is willing to include mentoring on business set up and practice as part of the residency.

There will be a welcome day induction which is additional to the residency to enable the winner to meet the team, see the studio, discuss their ideas and carry out advanced planning of what they want to achieve based on knowledge of the studio set up.

The aim is to develop original ideas with the potential to produce a new piece of work or project through to a finished piece.  This can be in hot glass, lampworking, cold shop or sandblasting techniques, or a combination of all.  Teign Valley Glass would like to retain a test piece from the residency for inclusion in their museum.

Teign Valley Glass is situated on the edge of Dartmoor in an old pottery.  The studio team bring together decades of experience to make beautiful works that capture the uniqueness of working with molten glass.  Today the studio has strong followings in the UK  and USA and continue to exhibit at international trade shows.  The studio's decorative glassware is in some of the best galleries, stores and private colections across the world. Teign Valley provides extensive glass working facilities within its hot shop and cold working shop alongside the support of a dedicated team to foster individual creative growth and expertise.

As part of the  prize, CGS will also pay £300 towards accomodation/travel during the residency.

This is a fantastic opportunity for practising glass artists at all levels and at all stages of their career to step back, take time and explore their potential in a well equipped studio alongside established makers.

All CGS members can apply for this prize.  We know that there will be a great deal of interest in this prize so please ensure that you tell us all about yoursef and what you hope to achieve in your application.
