The Leeds Piano Trail 2021 is a joyful gift to our city, seeking to unite people under the theme of ‘Growing Stronger Together,’ an ethos which will be shared and developed further by the 20th Leeds International Piano Competition in September 2021. We will be creating a unique musical journey which embeds Leeds’ piano heritage within the fabric of the city by installing a series of eleven bespoke upright pianos and ten interactive sculptures in accessible urban locations.

We will be creating a unique musical journey which embeds Leeds’ piano heritage within the fabric of the city by installing a series of eleven bespoke upright pianos and ten interactive sculptures in accessible urban locations.

We are working with Wellington Place to transform an upright piano into an artistic representation of the city centre location, reflecting its vibrancy, diversity and strong community values. The commission will ask the successful artist to offer up three potential designs which will enable the Wellington Place employees to contribute artistically to the transformation process across a day’s drop-in workshop. The artist will then finish the piano ready for installation in September. This is an exciting opportunity for any artist to work collaboratively with a corporate partner and broaden their portfolio.

Commission Fee: £600

Fee includes:

  • 1 Day - To create three potential piano designs around the theme of ‘Growing Stronger Together’ (a more detailed brief will be given to the successful artist.)
  • 1 Day - Planning the transformation session with Wellington Place employees and sourcing materials.
  • 1 Day - At Wellington Place guiding employees in contributing to the transformation process.
  • 1 Day - Completing the piano design and readying the piano for installation.

An upright piano, piano transportation and a workshop material budget will be provided.
