MICRO COMMISSION ARTIST CALL OUT. Free submission. (Paid opportunities for artists and creative practitioners!) Co-op(t) presents ARTY PARTY 2: INTEGRATE. Co-op(t) is a newly established collective of creative practitioners based in Coventry, UK. We are interested in supporting artists to present thought-provoking work that challenges issues faced by modern society.

We are currently programming a series of ‘Arty Parties’ that take on ‘big issues’. Our next Arty Party, ‘Integrate’ invites artists and other creatives to propose work that explores issues connected to Social Integration, such as diversity, inclusion, equality, equity, and representation.

The work will be presented over two days at:

Co-op[t] presents: ARTY PARTY 2: INTEGRATE Friday 13 September 2019 (evening - times tbc)

+ Co-op[t] Takeover! 2019 Spon Spun Festival Arts & Heritage Trail Saturday 14th September 2019 (daytime - times tbc)

Look around your circle. Who is there? Who is missing?

Recognising that there are still very real problems around diversity within arts audiences and representation of artists from marginalised backgrounds, we want to make a stand against tokenism and have a real and meaningful conversation around inclusion.

Co-op(t) believe that we become more effective as a society the more that we are exposed to those who have different experiences to us. We want to set the precedent that this is not just a minority issue, a lack of diversity in the arts has a negative impact on all of us. Our primary goal is to listen and create an opportunity for alternative perspectives to be heard. Artists are invited to submit work to be considered for a live event on Friday 13th - Saturday 14th September.

We are interested in showcasing work that actively encourages conversation around diversity, inclusion, equality, equity, representation, and social integration.

After achieving support from Arts Council England, we are able to offer the following 3 scales of micro-commission:

1. 4 x £250 commission for new work.

2. 6 x £100 commission for new work.

3. 10 x £50 inclusion fee for existing work or pre-production of digital work such as photography or digital illustrations.

***PLEASE NOTE: If we are interested in your application we may request that you complete an Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form. Given the nature of this project we are committed to making sure that artists from a broad cross section of society are represented.

Who is eligible for this opportunity?
Anyone and everyone. We want to make sure that we are celebrating and supporting a diverse range of artists, including those who do not necessarily consider themselves under-represented. We simply ask that you are registered self-employed and look after your own tax and national insurance contributions.
When is the deadline?
Monday 5th August at 5pm.
When is the delivery date?
This will be confirmed via email/telephone with our exhibition manager and curator, though please keep in mind that we will need your work to be available from approximately 10th Sept.
When do I need to collect my work?
TBC based on nature of work.
Are there payments to artists?
Yes, we have 3 levels of commission available. £250 or £100 for new work including workshops and performance. £50 inclusion fee for pre-existing work or to support re-production such as prints.
Is there a private view / opening?
The event takes places on the evening of September 13th, however some of the works may also be presented the following day as part of 'Spon Spun Arts and Heritage Trail'.
Does the location have disabled access?
Both of our venues have long-standing issues with access, however we are working with partner organisations to make sure that they are accessible to both our artists and our audience.
Do I need to be present?
Ideally yes. It will strengthen your application if you can be as we would like this event to actively promote conversation. However if you are applying from overseas or cannot be available for other reasons please don't hesitate to apply anyway. We regret that we cannot support the cost of travel.
What kind of proposals are you looking for?
We are particularly interested in work that actively promote conversation - such as interactive work, participatory work, performances and workshops. However all art forms will be considered.
What are the selection criteria?
Quality of work. How closely the work relates to the brief. Practicality - can the work be realised within the commission budget.
