Call for Submissions for: 'Jobs, Homes, Services, Not Racism' Dis Cuts
Seeking contributions for another edition of Dis Cuts to dig into the slogan "Jobs, Homes, Services, Not Racism" in the UK.
A slogan used over years, agreed by TUC in 2018 and a Unite the Union conference.
Why does this slogan matter? What does it mean?
Focusing on the material conditions that fuel racism and division, and on how to respond and campaign on these issues.
Exposing the links between Tory and now Labour austerity with the housing crisis, and deepening poverty and how this desperation and anger is being exploited to scapegoat asylum seekers and migrants.
The content could also address and debunk these racist myths, highlighting effective campaigns that tackle the root issues of jobs, homes, and services.
Submissions that connect these themes to the actions of a variety of political parties, such as Reform UK's support for disability cuts and their role in housing cuts in Northampton, demonstrating that their policies do not serve their "own" people.
Approaches of solidarity over division, including Fred Hampton's vision of a "Rainbow Coalition" that united poor and working-class people across racial lines against a common enemy: the systemic exploitation of capitalism.
Previous Form - I put the first version of Dis Cuts together in a rush around the Disability cuts in July, with 7 contributors connected to DPAC, along with a recent poem ‘Class that old chestnut’.
Submission Guidelines
- Written submissions, such as articles or letters, should be no more than 300 words to fit two sides of A5 text.
- Images, photographs, poems, quotes, lyrics, songs, and illustrations, mixed.
- Usage & Rights: Please note that we may not use all submitted material and without resources for feedback.
Deadline:
All submissions must be received by October 1st noon.

The final zine will be an A5 booklet, available online to share.
If we secure funds, a physical copy will be ready for the Social Housing Action Campaign (SHAC) conference in London, a national conference to discuss and develop a national tenants and residents union with over 100 attendees booked.
"Tenants and residents are outflanked when trying to challenge large, powerful corporate landlords who have seemingly endless resources and superior access to decision makers in local and national government, and in the press." SHAC Action (5 mins)
Done anything like this before
A bit of a range of things including The 1st ‘Dis Cuts’ zine focused on disabiltiy cuts and is held at the Welcome Collection archive and 400 copies were distributed at the Tolpuddle festival by Unite Community activists.
Must fit within the small A5 publication as print or URL link
Must not need any proofing
Ideally if there is alt text already of the work for disability access that would be a bonus.
Will ask if SHAC committee wish to be part of the decision group, if not 2 people who have worked around campaigning.
