(Extra)ordinary - open call commissions
Deadline: 14/12/2018City: Torbay | Region: Devon | Country: United Kingdom | Clare Parker
Paid opportunity
We invite submissions from individual artists, collaborating artists, producing & cultural organisations for projects to take place during June 2019 in Torbay as part of Eyeview, Torbay’s Great Place Scheme Cultural Programme. Applicants are invited to apply for up to £10,000 inclusive of VAT funding for specific creative proposals related to particular (extra)ordinary indoor or outdoor spaces and places in Torbay. We are looking to support up to four or five creative ideas that reveal new vistas or hidden narratives of special places and spaces in Torbay. We anticipate commissioning a variety of work to create a diverse programme for audiences of all ages. Work will be presented between 7-16th June, as part of the eyeview: (extra)ordinary programme strand.
We are seeking artist submissions for work that adds to a multiplicity of lenses to reveal and reimagine Torbay, through proposals that engage with specific locations, their physical, cultural, social and/or historic contexts. These may be interior spaces within heritage sites, unconventional spaces in the built environment, domestic interiors; or engagements with Torbay’s diverse and arresting natural environment, a UNESCO Global Geopark.
We encourage you to consider non-traditional spaces and places including spaces not typically considered for arts programming. Torbay has a wealth of (extra)ordinary natural and built spaces – across Brixham, Paignton and Torquay, and in-between. Work might for example, might take form within a working space such as the Fish Market, Brixham, a natural space such as Kents Cavern, Torquay or at a private home in Hele.
We are looking for established artists with proposals related to a specific location or area of Torbay. Proposals using any single or combined artform are welcome, including: music, dance, theatre, visual arts, sculpture, installation, light or sonic art, film and digital media.
Eyeview seeks to engage with existing and new audiences in and coming into Torbay, and to reach people who may not normally engage with the arts. Your project will spark curiosity, may be staged indoors or outdoors, and presented either on an intimate scale or for a large audience. We are looking for high quality projects that engage audiences in seeing and experiencing Torbay anew. Your work will surprise and delight and respond to place in a particular way.
