Paid opportunity

Report this?

The National Lottery Heritage Fund project titled Fashion Police is a collaboration between West Midlands Police Museum and Birmingham City University with the overall aim of changing perceptions of policing, through creating a better understanding of the people behind the uniform. It has included researching the history of police uniform, 3d scanning existing uniform, capturing oral histories of serving and retired officers and creating new displays and replica uniforms to showcase the content created for this project.

This opportunity is a paid commission to create some original work to showcase something related to the project.

This could be new artwork or maybe some wording related to the uniforms or stories.

You will have access to the content created during the project, including transcripts of the oral histories, the photographs and research, the histories and narratives that were developed for the fashion show and exhibition, and the final displays, to inspire some new original work.

There is a desire that whatever is created will also feature as part of a new range of items sold within the shop.

This is obviously dependant on the artwork and what is actually created, but this could be a range of a number of items, perhaps sold as limited edition products linked to the project, to raise money for the police museum.

We are looking for something new and exciting that helps us to share the messages and the ethos of the Fashion Police in a new way, with a new audience, and that works well to be produced on items sold in our shop.

We want to see that you've researched the Fashion Police project and you understand its aims and objectives, and have some ideas on how you can help to develop the project further with some new artwork based on the content we've generated so far.
