FiLiA 2019 conference showcase - Women's Art Exhibition

Last year, our theme celebrated 100 years since (some) women got the right to vote in the UK - a big leap forward in history. This year, we have an un-elected prime minister in office, and the UK is facing its most divisive political landscape in decades.

In times like these, it's important not to forget that for every big leap, there are many many small steps that one day add up to change.

We invite women to submit digital images of artworks, in any medium, that reflect on the small actions we take (in all aspects of our lives, from home to work to community, that add up to transforming the world.)

We would love to see works that meditate on feelings of frustration and resolve, empowerment and disempowerment, unity and division.

We ask entrants to pay £5 or £10 (or more if you are able) depending on what you can afford.

We thought long and hard about charging to showcase at FiLiA, and consulted artists with whom we have worked closely for years. As a charity, we put a huge amount of time and resources into supporting women in the arts.

We are volunteers, artists and creatives, and we know how hard it is to be a working artist and often not get paid for our time. For the previous 4 years we have put on the annual FiLiA show with no charge to artists. Since last year we have asked for a very small contribution (£5/£10) - please pay what you can afford. No one on the team will be paid out of this money - it will go directly to the costs of the exhibition.

It's very much intended in the spirit of mutual support - women helping women - because we believe that together, we can do so much more than individually. But please contact us on art@filia.org.uk if you have any questions or thoughts you'd like to share.
Is there a private view / opening?
Work will be on display at the FiLiA conference - book tickets here -filia.org.uk
What are the exhibition opening hours?
See on filia.org.uk
Does the location have disabled access?
Yes
Do I need to be present?
No, we will be putting up the show (all digital prints), we would love you to come to the conference (filia.org.uk) and see your work but this is not a requirement.
How do you decide on proposals?
Everyone who enters will be part of the exhibition. Any images supplied in the wrong format, dimensions or too low resolution will be included in the on line showcase only and not the print exhibition.
What kind of proposals are you looking for?
Anything at all! We want to support all women artists and we love to see a range of medium, ideas and creativity. We LOVE activist art, we aren't put off by radical ideas and we will support all women who enter. There is no competition in FiLiA and all artists are given equal opportunities.
What are the selection criteria?
None. We select all works that meet the printing criteria for the print show, all works will be showcased on line.
