Fronteer Gallery are looking for small artworks for our exhibition Hedgerow.
Fronteer Gallery are looking for small artworks inspired by the theme ‘hedgerow’.
Artworks could be about plants, animals, habitat loss or environmental issues, litter, urban hedgerows, or the countryside.
However you choose to interpret this theme, we would love to see your work.
Artists from across from across the UK are welcome to submit work.
Work can be in any medium, except audio or video works.
Wall mounted work can be any size or shape, but should take up no more 30cm x 30cm of wall space, including any frames and mounts if applicable.
Work can be framed or unframed. Unframed work should be suitable to be hung using Command Strips.
We welcome 3-d and sculptural work which should fit on a 30x30cm plinth, and should not exceed 35(height) x 30 x 30cm.
Artists are invited to submit up to 3 pieces of work for the exhibition.
Please complete a separate form for each submission. You may provide a short description of no more than 100 words, but this will not be displayed alongside the work.
UK based artists from all backgrounds are invited to submit. It is free to apply with only successful artists paying a fee of £22 fee for each piece of work selected.
Work can be offered for sale during the exhibition, and there is a commission charge of 10%.
In return for your fee, you will get a private view evening with free drinks which you are welcome to bring friends and family along to, invigilation throughout, and promotion of the exhibition online through social media posts.
This exhibition will run alongside the exhibition in our main space, which is a collaboration with Derbyshire-based folklore collective Well Dressed.
Please note, the gallery is upstairs and there is no disabled access.
DATES
The exhibition will run from 4th - 13th August 2026.
There will be an opening event on Saturday 1st August 4-6 pm.
The submission deadline is 6th July 2026.
Successful artists will be contacted by 10th July 2026.
Successful artists are welcome to send their work by post.
Work sent by post should reach us by 23rd July 2026 at the latest.
Artists are also welcome to deliver work in person to the gallery during gallery opening hours between 9th - 18th June.
If you have any issues with these dates please contact us before applying as we may be able to help.
Successful artists should pay their hanging fee by 18th July 2026.
Work can be collected from the gallery between 25th August - 3rd September 2026 during gallery opening hours.
If you would like your work returning to you by post please be aware that we charge a fee which includes a £4 handling fee and the cost of Tracked 48 (no signature required) postage.
Larger parcels can be returned through Parcelforce and will be sent Express 48. Couriers cannot collect your work from the gallery and we do not print postage labels.
All work must be complete at the time of submission.
Any work which varies from the original piece or size submitted may be rejected. We will not accept a canvas print as a substitute for an original artwork.
If you wish to submit any form of print, it will be your responsibility to print it off and prepare it for exhibition before delivering it to us.
Please note, we no longer provide a letter of recommendation for artists exhibiting with us.

ABOUT FRONTEER
Fronteer are a husband and wife artist led initiative who created exhibition opportunities for artists. In 2020 we opened our gallery, moving in 2022 to our current location in Orchard Square, Sheffield city centre. The gallery has 2 exhibition spaces.
We receive hundreds of visitors during an exhibition and would typically expect over 300 visitors during a 3 week exhibition. Our private view events can attract up to 100+ visitors.
We have 2 Instagram accounts to share images of artists' work and news about the gallery. @fronteer_art has over 4500 followers and @fronteer gallery has over 5500 followers. Instagram is our main social media platform but we also share posts on Facebook, YouTube and Threads
