In Pursuit of Error
Deadline: 03/02/2017Venue: Online | City: Online | Region: Cheshire | Country: United Kingdom | Tracy Piper-Wright
In Pursuit of Error is a practice research project which investigates the photographic 'mis-take'.
This project explores the potential of the photographic ‘failure’ and how it arises in our everyday photography but often goes unseen.
I’m looking for contributions of photographic errors - images that are blurred, out of focus, under-exposed, over-exposed, distorted or failed in some way - the ones that normally get deleted or thrown away. I’m particularly interested in digital errors but if you have error images from film photography then I’m happy to include them. The project is concerned with errors that have occurred 'in-camera' at the point of taking the photo, rather than those that have been created in post production, so please don't send images which have had an 'error-effect' applied.
The project has been running since 2014 and has already amassed an archive of error which can be viewed here: https://inpursuitoferror.co.uk/
Images already submitted to the project have been shown at conferences and exhibitions in the UK and overseas. I am continuing to gather errors in order to research the phenomenon of photographic failure and the aesthetic qualities of the error for future publication.
If you would like to contribute to the project please send me your photographic errors and tell me how they came about, in particular, whether the error occured accidentally (e.g. wrong camera setting) or as a result of a deliberate action on your part (e.g. waving the camera about!). Include links to your website or online presence so I can credit you on the website.
All contributors will be credited in all future forms and presentations of the project.
