KYN Hurlingham - exhibiting opportunity
Deadline: 18/06/2024City: London | Region: London | Country: United Kingdom | Lorraine Pajak
Paid opportunity
KYN HURLINGHAM, a new care home in Parsons Green, would like to site a sculpture in its garden to celebrate its opening in Summer 2024. This opportunity is open to members of the Royal Society of Sculptors only.
About KYN
KYN blends unrivalled care provision with exceptional hospitality and beautiful design centred around the individual.
Our second home, KYN Hurlingham, opening in June 2024, is a Grade II listed building, neighbouring the prestigious Hurlingham Club along the eastern side of Hurlingham Park. Originally built as a ‘Ragged School’ in 1855, the site has also previously served as an open-air school for Brompton Hospital and a youth club. Now, as a KYN care home, the existing heritage and fabric of the building have been sympathetically restored to its former glory as a landmark building within the local area.
KYN is passionate about nurturing the mind, body, and spirit of our residents and we offer a wealth of opportunities to create, watch, listen, participate, and enjoy. The therapeutic benefits of the creative arts and their appreciation are well known and will play a key role in our programme. We hope that a sited sculpture will spark interest and conversation amongst residents, providing moments of connection, reflection, and relaxation.
Our garden will include biodiverse, therapeutic planting, a central lawn, and a kitchen garden space, designed to appeal to the senses and encourage residents to connect with nature throughout the year. We anticipate that the selected artwork will foster a sense of ownership and pride within the home.
Brief
The garden will play a significant role in both our opening programme and the ongoing lives of our residents. As such, we are seeking a piece sculpture which responds to the flora and natural beauty found within the space. We are only considering existing artworks that are available for the required dates.
Specification
Duration of Exhibition: 6 months
Artwork size: Up to 1.5m x 1.5m.
Durability: The artwork will be located in an outdoor space for the duration of 4 months and be exposed to weather and physical stresses. Applicants should therefore ensure that their submission will be structurally and materially sound for the duration.
Location
There are several spaces within the garden which could host this sculpture, and we intend to work with the artist, architects, and landscapers to determine the best location for the artwork once selected.
Therefore, we welcome applications of sculptures which could be sited on either/both planted areas with a soil or lawn grounding, or a pathway made from permeable resin bound gravel. The artist will need to specify the requirements for installing and securing their sculpture upon point of selection.
Installation
The artist will be responsible for organising the transportation, installation, and de-installation of the work.
Support for the Artist
We will provide an artist fee of £500 (incl. VAT) and cover the costs of transportation, installation, de-installation and return of artwork to the artist.

A KYN representative, KYN residents, a member of the Hurlingham Club and Laura Ford, President of the Royal Society of Sculptors.
