Online exhibition awarding a £500 cash prize.

Leeds Summer Group Show builds on the success of a programme of annual summer group shows that has been running since 2015.  During the global pandemic we felt it was super important that we continue our work to support artists, to provide a platform to showcase art, sell work, recognise an artist/collective with a £500 cash prize and just generally contribute to some positive news!

In July we are hosting the Leeds Summer Group Show as an online exhibition. We want to make it as open as possible so there's no theme this year and we're open to any medium that you're able to share via the online form.

The selection panel will meet (virtually) to decide on the artists/collectives to take part in the exhibition. From those chosen, five will be shortlisted to be in the running for the prize which will be awarded via a public vote. The winner will receive the £500 cash prize and an interview that will be featured on The State Of The Arts website.

Please note when submitting images, digital files or links to films and sound pieces, these will need to be in a format ready to be uploaded onto the website. For further guidance on photographing your work please see the shared DropBox folder with our Photography Tips.

Please read the FAQ section carefully for deadlines and further information.

This online exhibition and prize has been made possible with the support of Leeds Inspired, CuratorSpace, The State Of The Arts and court spencer.

When is the deadline?
Midnight on Sunday 31 May.
How many works can I submit?
There is no limit to how many submissions an artist/collective can make, however we do ask that works that form part of a series are submitted together on one form.
How much does it cost?
There is no cost to make a submission.
Are there payments to artists?
We will award the winning artist/collective the £500 cash prize.
Is there a private view / opening?
As this is an online exhibition this year, there won't be a private view/opening. The exhibition will be available to view online 1-31 July, and will be available afterwards an an online archive.
What publicity will be provided as part of the opportunity?
The Leeds Summer Group Show will be promoted via online listings, social media, Leeds Inspired, www.thestateofthearts.co.uk and paid online advertising. All artists/collective exhibiting will be given a bespoke graphic to use to promote the exhibition to their online networks. The team will issue a press release and liaise with press to gain further exposure of the exhibition.
How do you decide on proposals?
The selection panel is made up of professionals from the arts sector, including curators, academics and artists. They choose the pieces to include in the online exhibition and decide on the five shortlisted for the prize, and the winner is decided via a public vote.
What happens if my proposal is chosen?
The selection panel is due to meet (virtually) in early June and all artists will be notified on the outcome. If your work has been selected you will receive a bespoke graphic to use to promote the exhibition to your online audiences.
What kind of proposals are you looking for?
We are very open in terms of medium and subject matter though your work will need to be submitted in a format that can be uploaded onto the website. If working in film or sound please supply an accessible link.
