LET US EAT CAKE is not only an exhibition but an empowering celebration and a platform to female creatives for International Woman’s day brought to you by collaborating artists Slutmouth and WildLamb.

This is an open call for submissions from female identifying visual artists working in all media to contribute to an exhibition in Middlesbrough, celebrating our womanly selves, our experiences and creativity.  This open call is for female creatives at any stage in their career, we are particularly interested in submissions from Northern, working class female creatives but welcome submissions from females who are not Northern or working class.

This call is only open to artists who identify as female.

All forms of art considered, but please detail in your application the media used, sized format and if the piece can also be easily showcased digitally after a conversation with us and the digital formats needed, especially for 3D work.

This will be a physical and digital exhibition that will run alongside each other. Due to the pandemic the physical space could be closed, but the digital gallery will remain. The online gallery will run if we are also able to have the physical space giving those who are shielding and living in different areas the chance to attend.

There is no fee for applications or commission for exhibiting or selling your work. We will take donations for a select charity for women which will be made known if you would like to donate commission towards that.

BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and disabled artists are encouraged to submit work.

This exhibition will open for the public on 8th March 2021, which is International Woman’s Day.  We will aim to have both the physical and digital gallery running on this date for four weeks but are also very flexible with COVID. We can hold onto physical work if the artists are fine with that and push a physical exhibition to the next period of time the Gallery can open.

Please submit the following:

  • An artist statement
  • Your social media platforms
  • 1-6 images of your work, you can submit more than one piece
  • Please include artwork size and format in the application

Deadline is 1st March, make sure to get your submissions in when you can.

Submissions must be digital high-quality images of your work that can be used in the digital gallery as well as selection of the work for the physical gallery space.

Deadline for arrival of physical work is 6th March, you will be informed of any exhibition changes if needed.
