Report this?

Plazuli invites artists and designers to apply for Lip Lines, a curated publication and exhibition exploring lips as sites of language, desire, identity, intimacy, and control. Lips exist at the boundary between the body and the world. They speak, kiss, consume, conceal, and resist. Through the lips, language is articulated, desire is enacted, and identity is performed.

This open call is interested in works that engage with:

voice, silence, and censorship
beauty, eroticism, and bodily control
language, translation, and communication
excess, distortion, resistance, and refusal

We welcome works across all media!

About the Organisers & Promotion

Curator:

Naj Shirazi is a London-based artist and emerging curator working across sculpture, textile, moving image, and contemporary curatorial practice. Her work spans metalwork, fabric, ceramics, text, and stop-motion, often incorporating her own body as both subject and material.

Drawing on feminist theory and personal experience, her practice explores embodiment and the complexities of identity as shaped through cultural, linguistic, and social structures.

Through an engagement with gender, agency, and the male gaze, she investigates how bodies are seen, interpreted, and regulated, while also examining language as a system that constructs meaning around the body.

Central to her work is an inquiry into how systems of power shape perception and visibility, and how these structures may be disrupted, resisted, and redefined.

Her practice reimagines the body as a site of autonomy, resistance, and transformation.

Plazuli is an independent curatorial platform based in Barcelona, focused on contemporary art, design, and material storytelling through exhibitions, publications, and open calls.

Following the success of our first open call, The Houses We Create, Lip Lines continues Plazuli’s commitment to supporting emerging and interdisciplinary artistic practices through curated physical and editorial opportunities.

The project is developed in collaboration with Haba Art Lab, an exhibition space located in El Born, Barcelona, near the Banksy Museum and Palau de la Música Catalana, an area with strong daily cultural foot traffic.
