Space2 is an arts and social change charity based in East Leeds, we celebrated our 20th year anniversary last year. We are based in the old workshop building at The Old Fire Station, Gipton which was converted into a community hub in 2017.

In our building, we have an art workshop space where we run community art groups and have our exhibition space. Throughout the year we curate a range of exhibitions of community members' art.

This year we have decided to do our first open call as part of our programme of exhibitions as we know that there are many people across East Leeds who are brilliant creatives and we want them to have a space to showcase their work locally.

The curators are Coralie Datta and Jelena Zindavic who both have a wealth of experience exhibiting art work.

Jelena has experience working within different groups of artists and filmmakers, exhibiting her work, but also leading many curatorial projects.

A very important part of her exhibitions is the diverse range of venues where she presents her work. Jelena has extensive experience working in arts education and is also a qualified Arts Award Advisor.

For the past 20 years, she has been working with over 90 primary and high schools nationwide. She also has experience working for some of the major arts organisations in West Yorkshire such as Leeds Art University, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Leeds Playhouse, ArtForms, Space2, Leeds Young Film Festival, North East Leeds CLC and Golden Owl Awards.

She has taught drawing, painting, sculpting, photography, film and animation to primary, secondary, FE and HE students, community groups and learners with a variety of physical, emotional and behavioural special needs.

Coralie has a background in photography before studying for a MA in Curation Practices at Leeds Arts University. She has a particular intrest in community arts which led her to be the curator of archives at Space2. Coralie has curated exhibitions at a range of venues including Buckingham Palace.
