OF STREETS AND MONSTERS invites Eastern European countries‘ emerging visual artists to show their best artistic creations at OKNA - Espaço Cultural (Porto, Portugal), in a group exhibition. Selected works will also participate in the art competition, where jury will pick a winner for the main prize – a chance to come to Porto and present a personal exhibition at our gallery. The competition encourages young Easterns European artists to show their artwork and creates an opportunity to promote the visual art culture in Portugal.

THEME for this year‘s competition – relationship with the city as a phenomenon. Participants are encouraged to contemplate about modern mythology, urban legends and interaction with inner monsters in the contemporary context. Perhaps our technologies, hometown backyards, roads and factories create opportunities for new kind of myths and legends to arise, transforming our primal instincts into new forms of creative energy, which manifests itself through minds of young creatives.

WHO CAN APPLY: Emerging artists from Eastern Europe (Albania, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine) can apply.

Applicable artwork can be drawing, painting, photography, collage, animation, short film/video art.

AWARD: Main prize winner will be invited to Porto, Portugal (economy class return tickets and accomodation included) and provided with OKNA gallery space for personal show.

No fees to apply, artist cover shipment costs if necessary.

Main prize is an economy trip and accommodation in Porto, Portugal, with an opportunity for solo exhibition at OKNA cultural space.

Do I need to be present?
No
What happens if my proposal is chosen?
The artist who's proposal is chosen has to either send us digital artwork of high resolution, or send the original artwork to us by mail.
What kind of proposals are you looking for?
We are looking for proposals that would cover the theme of competition, be atmospheric and personal. Genre and medium plays secondary part.
