Open Call - Horses
Deadline: 14/11/2026City: London | Country: United Kingdom | Nancy-Violet Downs
We invite submissions of artworks around the theme of Horses for a London exhibition on the 5th and 6th of December.
Celebrating the year of the Fire Horse, we encourage works in all media that explore horses from a range of perspectives. We are particularly interested in works exploring this through the lenses of spirituality, folklore, symbolism and personal narratives.
The exhibition will take place at Hartslane, New Cross, on the 5th and 6th of December 2026. We expect visitors from the local and art community in East and wider London, with an interest in contemporary and conceptual art.
Works for sale are welcome, and no commission will be taken by the gallery or curators - 100% to the artist.
The exhibition will be shared on Instagram via the 2 curators' accounts (2000 followers) and Hartslane Gallery's account (6000 followers).
This exhibition is a great opportunity to engage with the local and art community in East London, showing your work in a known artist-led space and connecting with other emerging artists.
In your application please include: image of your work, dimensions, install plan (hanging/mounting), price/not for sale, year made, title, name, description (no more than 50 words) of how the piece relates to the theme Horses.
We are interested in works of all media, including writing.
We are also interested in proposals for performances or workshops relating to the theme, to engage the local community.
Please note it is not permitted to charge for any activity in the space.
The exhibition will take place at Hartslane Gallery, New Cross, London.
Selected artists will be required to drop off and collect their work for install and deinstall at a given time slot, and share the exhibition poster.
Application is free, and a £20 participation fee per work is payable upon selection to cover the cost of the space.
We warmly welcome anyone who would like to help invigilate.
Please let us know if you have any access requirements.
