Meet the Locals is a group exhibition showcasing the work of local artists from Sheffield and the surrounding areas. This will be the first formal group exhibition at the new Fronteer Gallery in Sheffield city centre.

OPEN CALL -Meet the Locals

Meet the locals introduces the work of local artists from Sheffield and surrounding areas.

We are looking for submissions of work on any subject in any media (except for audio or video work) from artists based in Sheffield and the surrounding areas. Artists are invited to submit a short 50 word bio which will be displayed alongside their work. Work should be no bigger than 1 square metre.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be no private view for this exhibition, but with our late openings on Saturdays until 7pm, you are welcome to visit the bar next door to get yourself a drink when you come to see the exhibition (depending on the government guidelines at the time).

The exhibition will run from 18th – 28th November.

The gallery is open Wednesday-Friday 11-4, and Saturday 2-7.

Artists from all backgrounds are invited to submit one piece of work each. It is free to apply with only successful artists paying a fee of £30.

The submission deadline is at midnight on Friday 30th October. Successful artists will be contacted by Tuesday 3rd November.

Successful artists must deliver work to the gallery on Monday 16th November between 11am and 4pm. If you have any issues with this date please contact us before applying. Successful artists should also pay their £30 fee by 13th November.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

How to Submit

Artists are invited to submit one piece of work no bigger than 1 square metre in size. Pieces of work consisting of more than one part (e.g. a triptych) will be considered as one piece of work. All work should be ready to hang or display. You may submit up to 3 images of your piece of work.

We want to tell visitors to the exhibition a bit about the artists. For this reason, please include a short bio about you and your practice (no more than 50 words long) along with your submission.

Work can be offered for sale during the exhibition, and there is a commission charge of 1% to cover banking costs incurred by the gallery from sales. We do not wish to handle cash so all sales must be card transactions and gallery signage will make this known to visitors.

Work should be collected from the gallery on Sunday 29th November. If you have any issues with this date please contact us before submitting and we can look at possible alternatives.

We regret that we are unable to accept audio or video submissions.

All work must be complete at the time of submission. Any work which varies from the original piece submitted may be rejected. If you wish to submit a print, it will be your responsibility to print it off and prepare it for exhibition before delivering it to us.

Thank you and good luck!
