About The Art House

The Art House provides time, space, and support for artists, makers and creative businesses to develop their practice. Artists and audiences of all kinds are invited to engage with the creative process through a year-round programme of residencies, exhibitions, events, workshops, and professional development opportunities.

Established in 1994 by a diverse group of artists, The Art House works across its programmes and projects towards equality of access and higher diversity in contemporary visual arts practice.

The Art House has 50 accessible artists’ studios hosting a wide variety of artists, makers, and creative businesses. The building also contains exhibition spaces, on-site accessible accommodation for creatives, a shop, a café, and meeting rooms.

The Art House is an NPO (National Portfolio Organisation) with Arts Council England.

Programme Accessibility at The Art House:

Across all The Art House programmes we support the production of high-quality artwork by artists with a wide range of experiences and abilities.

The entire building, including studios and artist accommodation, has level access and a range of equipment available to support varying needs.

The Art House uses the Social Model of Disability, and welcome applications from those who self-identify as disabled. (The Equalities Act 2010 says that a person is disabled if they have a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on their ability to work or to carry out day-to-day activities. This is just one possible definition).

About Outside In

Outside In, founded in 2006 at Pallant House, Chichester, aims to provide artists with the support and confidence they need to enter the art world. The organisation’s work covers three main areas: artist development, exhibitions and training. These activities, supported by fundraising and communications, all aim to create a fairer art world by supporting artists, creating opportunities and educating organisations.

Since its inception, the organisation has engaged with more than 5,000 artists traditionally excluded from the mainstream art world, reached a quarter of a million audience members and gained more than 80 partner organisations nationally. It has held more than 50 exhibitions to date and now provides opportunities and support for more than 2,600 artists. In the next three years the charity will work to create a national platform to support the delivery of its programmes. It will do this through working in partnership with key strategic arts organisations across the UK to act as hubs of activity and support.
