Open call for artists to exhibit in Scaffold Gallery's latest show, A Show About The Show.

Scaffold Gallery's next show will focus on the exhibition itself, taking a look at its rich culture and history, and asking questions of its relevance today.

We are seeking artists to produce new works made specifically to explore the art exhibition as an event, challenging their role in society, how they function, the customs and behaviours of an opening night, and to provide a comment and critique.

There are no restrictions on size/media, although anything very large or demanding may not be possible depending on the space once confirmed.

It is planned to take place in late April/May, depending on availability of spaces.

At this stage we do not require a fully formed proposal. Instead send us a short statement about your work in general, as well as images/files of your work, and a link to your website or any other necessary links.

If you have an idea for the work, include this, but we are selecting artists based on the potential we see, we are not picking artworks.

There will be a £20 contribution required from each selected artist to help cover venue hire and other related costs.

When is the deadline?

How many works can I submit?
If you are accepted, this can be negotiated with us. If you have more than one idea it would be possible to include more than once piece in the show.
When is the delivery date?
The date for the actual show is unconfirmed, although is intended to be late April.
If accepted we will keep you updated. Work will need to be arrive with us 5 days before installation begins, unless you are bringing the work yourself, in which case you will need to be there at the start of the install.
When do I need to collect my work?
If you are unable to attend de-install, we will remove your work from the space, and can arrange for collection of delivery. As we are unfunded we will unfortunately have to invoice you for any postage charges.
How much does it cost?
We will require a £10 contribution from each successful artist to support the gallery and venue hire.
Are there payments to artists?
We hope to one day be able to pay artists for their involvement but unfortunately we will not be able to offer anything for this exhibition, due to our lack of funding. We are passionate about promoting artists, so your involvement will hopefully benefit your careers.
Is there a private view / opening?
There will be, date unconfirmed.
What are the exhibition opening hours?
n/a
Does the location have disabled access?
n/a
What publicity will be provided as part of the opportunity?
Scaffold Gallery publicises its own events actively through social media and physical poster distribution.
Do I need to be present?
No, as long as the work arrives on time, unless you are bringing the work or need to install it yourself.
How do you decide on applicants?
We decide as a team which artists most interest us. As we are not looking for proposals and just for artists general body of work, we are looking artists that we feel could surprise us, and produce something exciting.
What happens if my proposal is chosen?
We will contact you and explain in more detail the project, and then remain in contact with you in the lead up to the show.
