OPEN CALL for artists and writers - Labour Repetition and Print
Deadline: 06/11/2026City: Worldwide! | Jenna Fox
Art and written open call submissions on the theme of LABOUR REPETITION PRINT for Issue 76 of Haus-a-rest
Haus-a-rest Zine — www.haus-a-rest.com
Deadline 6th November 2026
From the repetitive gestures of the factory floor to the rhythms of domestic work; from mechanical reproduction to digital copying; from routine and ritual to exhaustion and resistance — repetition is embedded within both labour and how images, objects and ideas are produced and circulated.
Print is understood here both as a medium and as a concept: a mark left through pressure, contact, repetition or reproduction.
A print can be an impression, a trace, a copy, a record, a pattern, a surface, or evidence of an action.
In an increasingly automated and digitally reproduced world, what does it mean to make something by hand?
What happens when labour becomes repetitive?
And how might repetition become a strategy for resistance, survival, memory or transformation?
We welcome practices that engage with the theme directly or indirectly, asking artists to consider the physical, social, political, emotional and economic dimensions of labour and repetition.
We are interested in work exploring:
- Repetitive labour and routine
- Manual, industrial and domestic labour
- Invisible, unpaid and care work
- The process of making and skilled labour
- Printmaking, stamping, copying and seriality
- Digital reproduction and the circulation of images
- Repetition as ritual, habit or compulsion through the process of printing
ALL MEDIA WELCOME
We welcome submissions from artists working in any medium, including but not limited to:
Painting • Drawing • Printmaking • Photography • Sculpture • Installation • Text • Film • Video • Animation • Digital Art • 3D Art • Sound • Performance • Textile • Ceramics • Collage • Mixed Media • Conceptual Art • AI-assisted practices • Interdisciplinary work and WRITTEN work
We particularly welcome work that challenges conventional definitions of what constitutes a print, an artwork, or an act of labour.
Who can apply?
The open call is open to emerging, mid-career and established artists internationally. We also encourage students, recent graduates, and self-taught artists to apply.
There are no submission fees to enter or if you are selected!
We are interested in ideas and practices rather than credentials, and encourage submissions from artists who may not traditionally identify their work as being connected to print.
