Open call for exhibition: 'Between Sky and Earth', part of the 'Landscapes of the Lark' project.

Artists are invited to submit work for a group show in the SVA project space, Stroud. Periscope (artists and community facilitators Emily Joy and Alison Cockcroft) invite applications for 'Between Sky and Earth'.

Periscope create immersive public spaces and events, curate exhibitions and an ongoing programme of talks and discussions exploring connections between art, community and ecology. www.periscopics.wordpress.com

Periscope are partnering with SVA (Stroud Valleys Artspace), a cultural hub in Stroud who curate a dynamic programme of international arts, music and cultural events. www.sva.org.uk

This group show is part of the 'Landscapes of the Lark' project (April-September 2023) led by SVP (Stroud Valleys Project), who are a campaigning organisation supporting people of all backgrounds and abilities to connect with and nurture green spaces. The 'Landscapes of the Lark' project includes citizen science, walks, talks and other cultural events celebrating skylarks and raising awareness of the importance of the grassland ecosystem that supports them.

Periscope invite artists to consider, amongst related themes:

  • shared public space
  • cultural representations of larks and what they symbolise
  • commons and common land
  • negotiations of urban and rural commons
  • sky and earth
  • liminal spaces
  • our relationship to place
  • contested spaces
  • grassland ecologies
  • connections
  • networks and responsibility of care
  • preservation and ecology
  • works that explore voices of those who inhabit and work in close relationship to land
  • works that elevate other-than-human experiences.

In keeping with Periscope’s ethos of non-hierarchical inclusivity we will not be asking artists to submit a CV.
