WORLD OF CO is a newly-established international artist residency program, located in Sofia, Bulgaria

Description of residency program
WORLD OF CO is a multidisciplinary self-directed residency program, for established and emerging artists. By entering a world located in the clash between East and West and feeling the diverse culture, the program aims to provoke your creativity. During the residency you will have the opportunity to taste the spirit and atmosphere of Bulgaria, while learning new skills, meeting new people and exchanging ideas.

 

WORLD OF CO aims to support all kind of contemporary artistic practices, while promoting the exchange, experimentation and collaborative work.
The program provides time, space and chance to explore ideas and focus on personal projects.

The main language in the residency is English.

What to expect

World of Co provides accommodation and shared studio space at the city center of Sofia, together with:

  • Two traditional craft workshops (with possibility to choose additional workshops)
  • Guided gallery tour
  • Weekly Bulgarian language lesson
  • Art talk or workshop by resident artist
  • Life drawing sessions
  • Collective exhibition
  • Sofia City Guide - curated collection of art stores, print shops, galleries and museums
  • List of art and culture events in Sofia and Bulgaria
  • Bulgarian phone number – SIM card

Accommodation
The residency apartment is five-bedroom-apartment in the heart of Sofia, next to many cultural attractions. Every artist has private fully furnished bedroom, between 15 and 25 sqm. The apartment is equipped with shared kitchen, living room, bathroom and laundry room with washing machine. The residency provides also Wi-Fi, cleaning service, linen and utilities.

Studio/ Workspace

The residency artists will work in a shared studio at the city center, located in 10 minutes walking distance from the apartment. The studio is furnished 140m² large space (chairs, tables), including Wi-Fi and all utilities (water, heating, energy, kitchen, toilet etc.). The studio will turn into exhibition space at the end of the month.

Duration of residency
The duration of the Residency program is flexible - from one to six months. Longer periods are also possible. For fully experience of the program, we suggest at least 2 months stay.

Disciplines
Our doors are open to all disciplines including visual arts, sculpture, textile art, performing arts, literature, new media, animation, printmaking, curatorial studies, movie making, architecture, design, dancing, music, playwrights and so on.

Monthly fee

The monthly residency fee is 650 euro, including the program, accommodation, workspace and utility bills. For shared room by two artists, the price is 500 euro.

Application information

Every program starts from the first day of the month.

Established and emerging artists are invited to fill in the application form and send us a short CV, an artist statement, a select portfolio, and - if existing a link of your website.
