SECOND SIGHT, an independent contemporary art review platform by Molend Art, invites submissions from writers, artists, curators, researchers and students internationally. We welcome thoughtful writing on contemporary art, exhibitions, artistic practices and curatorial practice, with a particular interest in close observation, independent perspectives and critical engagement.

SECOND SIGHT is an independent contemporary art review platform initiated by Molend Art. Based in Scotland and internationally oriented, the platform focuses on contemporary art, exhibitions, artistic practices and curatorial practice.

The name SECOND SIGHT reflects our approach: to look beyond first impressions. We are interested in writing that returns to artworks, exhibitions and curatorial practices to uncover contexts, structures and questions that might otherwise be overlooked.

We welcome submissions from artists, curators, researchers, critics, students and others engaged with contemporary art. Both emerging and established writers are encouraged to submit, and previous publication experience is not required.

We are currently accepting:

• Exhibition Reviews — critical responses to exhibitions, artistic practices, curatorial approaches and viewing experiences. Suggested length: 500–1,200 words.

• Curatorial Writing — writing on curatorial methods, exhibition-making, spatial and narrative structures, public programmes and research-led curating. Suggested length: 800–1,500 words.

• Critical Essays — essays exploring contemporary art in relation to wider cultural, social and current issues, including digital art and AI. Suggested length: 800–2,000 words.

• Field Notes — shorter observations and reflections from exhibitions, artist talks, residencies, festivals and other art contexts. Suggested length: 300–800 words.

We value writing grounded in close observation, informed research, clear argument and an independent authorial perspective.

Selected submissions will undergo editorial review and, where appropriate, revision with the SECOND SIGHT editorial team. Published articles will appear on the Molend Art website with full author credit and may also be shared through Molend Art’s social channels and arts network.

For submissions received by 31 December 2026, no editorial or publication fee will apply to selected articles.

Submissions should include the article manuscript, a short author biography (50–100 words), and relevant information about the exhibition or subject discussed. Writers may also submit up to five accompanying images with captions, credits and copyright information.

Submissions must be original and previously unpublished. Authors remain responsible for the accuracy of facts, quotations and sources, as well as permissions for images and other third-party material.
