Open Call: Museum of Homeland
Deadline: 01/11/2026Museum of Homeland
Museum of Homeland is a virtual museum collecting objects people brought with them when moving to another country. Everyday objects become carriers of memory, personal history, and connection to home. The project is open to anyone with migration experience, regardless of country of origin, destination, or language.
Museum of Homeland began as an exhibition, where participants shared personal objects they had brought with them in emigration.
Today, the museum continues online as an open and growing archive of objects and stories from different countries, languages, and experiences.
We invite anyone with migration experience to participate — regardless of country of origin, destination, background, or artistic profession.
We are looking for everyday objects that may seem ordinary but carry personal meaning: something you decided to take with you, keep, protect, or continue living with after moving to another country.
Each submission includes:
- 1–5 photographs of the object
- A short text about it, from a few sentences to a short story
The text can address questions such as:
- What is this object?
- Why did you bring it with you?
- What memory or connection does it hold?
- How has its meaning changed after migration?
Submissions are welcome in any language. Translation will be provided if needed.
Phone photographs are absolutely welcome. Good lighting and a neutral background are preferred.
Selected submissions will become part of the online collection.
The project exists at the intersection of archive, storytelling, literature, and participatory art practice.
Rather than focusing on valuable artifacts, Museum of Homeland is interested in the emotional life of ordinary things and in the ways objects preserve traces of people, homes, relationships, and movement across borders.
How We Use the Materials
By submitting your photographs and text, you:
- Agree to their publication on the Museum of Homeland website and affiliated online platforms
- Confirm that you are the author of the photographs or have the right to submit them
- Allow us to lightly edit the text (for proofreading or minor shortening) without changing its meaning
- Grant permission to use the materials within the project on the website, on social media, and in presentations related to the exhibition.
We do not use submitted materials for commercial purposes and do not share them with third parties.
What Happens After Submission
We will read your story and review the photographs. If your materials are suitable for publication:
- We will contact you by email
- Clarify details if necessary
- Let you know when your object will appear in the collection.
We usually respond within 1–2 weeks.
