Open exhibition for Newcastle and North-East based artists working in print, drawing, painting and more.

Gallagher & Turner was established in 1990 in Newcastle, and has a lively changing programme of exhibitions. In the past, we have shown and sold work by the likes of David Hockney, Picasso, Miró, Antony Gormley and Barbara Rae.

In 2019, on the eve of our 30th anniversary, we're holding our first open exhibition for local artists. There is no theme for submissions, and submissions are welcome from artists working in most two-dimensional media, as well as small sculpture, ceramics and glass. Please note that we cannot accept photography, digital, moving image, audio or performance work.

The exhibition will include the opportunity to sell your work to our established network of collectors. Whilst there are no payments for participation, we will endeavour to sell your work from our gallery space in central Newcastle. Please note that commission on sales is 40% + VAT.

Work submitted must be for sale, and be sold directly by the artist, not from a collection or other gallery. Submissions will only be accepted via Curatorspace. Please do not bring work to the gallery in person unless your submission has been accepted.

Two dimensional work should be less than 100 x 100 cm, including any framing. Work on paper, including drawings and prints, must be framed to a decent standard in order to go on show. As we are also a picture framing business, we are able to frame some work for the exhibition if given it long in advance, although work that is already framed is preferred. The cost of the framing will be the artist's responsibility.

Three dimensional work should be no larger than 50cm in any dimension. Please note that we cannot accept work that is floor standing, although we have a small number of plinths and surfaces to show small sculptures, ceramics and glass pieces.

Selection will be decided by our gallery team, and we will let you know the outcome as soon as possible.

The artist must be able to deliver the work to the gallery between 13th - 20th August, and collect any unsold work in person between 5th - 10th October. Any delivery or collection costs are the artist's responsibility, and therefore this opportunity is open only to artists local to the North East.

Please note that our gallery space is fairly small, and so accepted work will be hung fairly close together.

The exhibition will be open from 23rd August - 5th October, with a preview on the evening of 22nd August, which participating artists are invited to attend.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
