Open exhibition for Newcastle and North-East based artists working in print, drawing, painting, jewellery and sculpture.

Gallagher & Turner was established in 1990 in Newcastle and our gallery on St. Mary's Place (opposite The Civic Centre) hosts a lively programme of changing exhibitions, featuring both well known, international artists and local, emerging artists. We have exhibited and framed work by many highly regarded artists, including David Hockney, Francis Bacon, Barbara Rae, Antony Gormley, and Elizabeth Blackadder.

For more information about Gallagher & Turner please visit our website

This year we’re holding our second open submission exhibition for local artists from November 2021 – January 2022. There is no theme for submissions, and submissions are welcome from artists working in most two-dimensional media, jewellery, as well as small sculpture, ceramics and glass. Please only submit work that is available to exhibit. Please note that we cannot accept photography, digital, moving image, audio or performance work.

The exhibition will include the opportunity to sell your work to our established network of collectors. There is no application fee and we will endeavour to sell your work from our gallery space in central Newcastle. Please note that commission on sales is 40% + VAT (to equal 48%)

Work submitted must be for sale directly by the artist, not from a collection or other gallery. You may submit up to 3 works. Submissions will only be accepted via Curatorspace. Please do not bring work to the gallery in person unless your submission has been accepted.

2D work should be less than 100 x 100 cm, including framing. Works on paper must be framed to go on show (this is because we use a gallery hanging system where the pictures hang on hooks attached to clear cables, connected to a rail on the ceiling) We are also a picture framing business, so we may be able to frame some work for the exhibition, although work that is already framed is preferred. The cost of framing is the artist's responsibility.

3D work should be no larger than 50cm in any dimension. Please note that we cannot accept work that is floor standing, although we have a small number of plinths and surfaces to show small sculptures, ceramics and glass pieces. We have glass cases to display jewellery in.

We encourage applications from all backgrounds and communities, and are keen to produce an exhibition that is made up of diverse skills, experiences and abilities. We are committed to equality and diversity and actively encourage applications from disabled artists and artists of colour, and value the positive impact that differences have on our organisation.

Selection will be decided by our gallery team, and we will let you know the outcome as soon as possible.

The artist must be able to deliver the work to the gallery between 16th - 20th November, and collect any unsold work in person between 18th – 20th January. Any delivery or collection costs are the artist's responsibility, and therefore this opportunity is open only to artists local to the North East.

The exhibition will be open from 26th November 2021 – 15th January 2022, with a preview on the evening of 25nd November, which participating artists, families, friends and the public are invited to attend.

If you have any questions please contact our gallery manager Jenny by email. Check our website for contact details

We have artists we are still working with since the last open submission and find it's a good way to discover new artists.
