Artist call-out: To celebrate our first anniversary, •nook• gallery is inviting artists and makers to respond to the theme of Paper for a special exhibition, Paper Year. We’re looking for work that explores, uses, or is inspired by paper in imaginative and thoughtful ways
•nook• is a contemporary craft gallery and creative space in Kings Heath, Birmingham.
To celebrate our first year, we are hosting a group exhibition titled Paper Year, running from 13th to 30th June 2025.
We are inviting submissions from artists and makers working in both contemporary craft and fine art disciplines, whose work engages with the theme of Paper.
This can include - but is not limited to - paper as material, subject, process, concept, or tradition.
We are open to 2D, 3D, installation and small-scale sculptural work, as well as experimental and interdisciplinary approaches.
Fees:
Work can be for sale or not; we support both commercial and non-commercial practices. Commission will be charged on all sold items.
Depending on the nature of the work, we offer 3 types of participation:
• Option 1: No hanging fee, with a 40% commission on any sales
• Option 2: £10 hanging fee, with a reduced 25% commission on sales
• Non-commercial work: £15 flat hanging fee (no commission taken)
We reserve the right to determine which option is most suitable for each participant based on the type of work submitted and how it fits within the overall exhibition.
The artworks we are looking for:
- Demonstrate an innovative or thoughtful response to the theme of Paper
- Reflect originality, experimentation, or a strong personal voice
- Are suitable for presentation within a group exhibition format
- Consider the physical space and context of the gallery
Selection criteri:
- A high level of skill and craftsmanship
- Creative interpretation of the theme
- Originality and depth of concept
- Clarity and coherence of the proposal
- Suitability for the gallery space and group context
We are happy to accept individual pieces or small collections of work.
If your work is selected, we may get in touch to discuss the most suitable option or display format based on the space and curatorial vision.
We aim to be flexible and collaborative - if we think your work would fit well in the exhibition, we’re open to finding the best way to present it.
This is an in-person exhibition held at our gallery.
