The Socially Engaged Art Salon seeks portraiture photography works for an online and on-site exhibition at the LGBTQ+ Ledward Centre. We seek self-portraiture by LGBTQAI+ persons and/or portraiture that breaks the hierarchies and power dynamics between the photographer and their "subject" / photographed person/s.

There are two bodies of photography/lends based work we are looking for:

1. Self-portraits by LGBTQ+ photographers/artists – we are looking for queer, unconventional techniques or themes, conceptual work, mixed media, narrative-based or any other works which will move people, stop them in their tracks, feel and think.

2. Portraiture photography that uses socially engaged practices, collaborative work, and any other photographic techniques that break the hierarchies between the photographer and their “subjects” / photographed persons.

Media: Photography [digital or analogue], Collage, Video, and any other lends-based techniques.

Due to space constraints, we are looking for 2D.

Important details:

Submission of the works and participation in the exhibition are free.

SEAS will print selected work, and others will be projected on a wall and/or a screen.

Brighton / Sussex-based photographers who have works already ready to be hung and can come with them on the installation days, Sunday evening, October 13th, and Monday Evening, October 14th.

We will reimburse members for their time and travel expenses [£30 each].

Due to this short-noticed opportunity to exhibit at the deadline for submitting the work is relatively short, the process of choosing the works will begin as soon as the ad is published, and the one who was selected will be given on a rolling basis until the space is filled.

Notification will be sent to all a week after the deadline.
