A public artwork is to be commissioned for a new development, The Ribbon, in London’s Fitzrovia.

The site occupies a prominent corner at the junction of Oxford Street and Wells Street. Oxford Street is a world famous shopping street.

The Ribbon will see a new interpretation of a heritage location, with architectural details inspired by the history of the site.

It will feature 3 floors of retail space fronting Oxford Street, 7 floors of office space, a publicly accessible events space, a roof terrace and amenities.

Artwork Form

The new artwork will be on a facade on a passageway to the side of the building, known as ‘Adam & Eve Court’. This public work of art will be visible to general passersby as well as users of the building.

The artwork will be created to improve the appearance of the ventilation louvres.

This may take the form of:

1. A sculptural structure that is fixed to the curtain walling and covers the louvres, which still allows airflow
2. A specialist surface treatment design, such as painting or acid etching, that is applied either directly onto the louvres or onto fixed panel/s

Subcontractors and fabricators may be used for the production of the artwork.
