Right to Roam open call for artists

The Inspired by… Gallery at Danby Lodge National Park Centre in the heart of the North York Moors, is seeking submissions for our upcoming ‘Right to Roam’ exhibition, running from 20th June – 26th July, 2026.

Please note the exhibition is taking place in 2026, not 2025.

This is an opportunity for artists to showcase and sell their work, while exploring themes of landscape and social justice.

We welcome artists of all mediums across the UK to apply.

Whether you have existing work or want to create new pieces in response to the Right to Roam brief, we want to hear from you.

Themes you might want to think about, but not limit yourself to when applying are:

  • Collective belonging within the landscape.
  • Caring for the landscape.
  • Land, roaming, and ownership.
  • How other cultures perceive land, roaming, and ownership.
  • How the National Park, public rights of way provide access to the countryside, you may want to focus on the NYMNP.
  • The historic activism that led to the creation of the UK’s National Parks.

A brief introduction to the historical activism can be found here:

There is also this wonderful film from 1938:

You may also include links to a website or social media channels.

Get involved, showcase your work, and be part of this exciting display celebrating the North York Moors National Park!

The deadline for applications is 31st July 2025.

The work can be offered for sale during the exhibition; there will be a commission charge of 35% of the sale price of each piece of art.
