The Heart of Art invites all artists to take part in the “Self Portraits Make Me Smile Exhibition” (an exhibition in the lead up to Bradford being UK City of Culture 2025). The exhibition will run from the end of April 2023 to the End of May 2023 - exact dates to be announced.

The Heart of Art Gallery is located in Shipley Underground Market (SUM) and is the site of a semi-permanent exhibition dedicated to the work of one of Britain's most popular and innovative artists.

Artists are invited to submit one self portrait as a digital image for possible inclusion in the "Self Portraits Make Me Smile" exhibition which will run alongside the current exhibitions.

All work submitted will be subject to a selection process undertaken by The Heart of Art, for inclusion in the exhibition. Your self portrait can be in any medium that can be reproduced from your submitted digital image and printed by us to a maximum of A4 size.

All images chosen will be exhibited for a minimum of 30 days.

In addition, there will be an award of £100 for the favourite self portrait as decided by The Heart of Art.

To submit your self portrait (maximum image size is A4 - 21 x 29.7cm) for consideration in the "Self Portraits Make Me Smile Exhibition" there is a submission fee of £10, this is to help cover the costs associated with the exhibition and the printing and framing of the selected works.

Works that are selected for inclusion in the exhibition will be printed and framed by The Heart of Art, but copyright will be retained by the original artist. Artists can decide on a selling price if they wish to offer their work for sale.

The Heart of Art seeks to enable artists to have a physical representation of their work in a gallery setting, at a minimal cost to the artist (in this case only the £10 submission fee).  Our aim on this occasion is to have an eclectic exhibition of what artists in all their glory(?) feel they look like.
