We seek social media coordinators to assist in the promotion of the Manifest Arts Festival 12th - 21st July 2019.

Manifest Arts Festival 2019 – Social Media Coordinators – volunteer position

Manifest Arts Festival is a biennial festival of contemporary visual art produced in the North West of England. It runs across venues in Manchester, Salford and satellite events in Bolton, Wigan, and Leigh for 10 days in July.

Manifest Arts Festival 2019 will be the third biennial festival we have run. We are looking to increase our social media presence and engagement to get the word out about this year’s exciting festival. As a result, we are seeking Volunteer Social Media Coordinators to work closely with the Directors of the festival to work on and implement the social media strategy for the 2019 festival.

This is an opportunity to gain experience in working with a festival quickly growing in cultural recognition, and to help increase its engagement and popularity. We envisage this opportunity would suit a student or recent graduate with a particular interest in social media and promotional development.

During the last festival we had 2 coordinators, with duties split between overall planning and technical coordination, and artist and venue focussed information gathering. We would anticipate a similar dynamic this year.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • To help increase and monitor social media followers and engagements on our social media channels.

  • Working closely with the three festival directors to add to and implement the social media strategy for the Manifest Arts Festival 2019.

  • The opportunity to develop ideas and strategy together with a professional PR company.

  • Create engaging text, image and short video content for social media channels.

  • Updating social media channels with relevant content and updates in the lead up to the festival, during the festival (12th - 21st July) and several days after the festival.

  • Travelling to festival venues and events to record and implement social media strategy (e.g. live streaming videos, tweets and photos from events).

Qualities and experience preferred:

  • Keen interest in social media, PR, branding.

  • Experience and knowledge of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram essential, plus a willingness to engage with other new media platforms.

  • Knowledge of, and passion for, the arts (with particular emphasis on contemporary visual art being produced in the North West of England) is desirable.

  • Ability to follow set strategy and remain on message with consistent written tone and visual identity.

  • Reliability to attend occasional planning meetings in central Manchester.

  • Ability to communicate via email and undertake much of the role remotely from your own base (home, university etc.) and your own equipment such as a laptop/phone.

  • Availability to travel across venues in Manchester, Salford, Bolton, Wigan and Leigh to live post, tweet, blog etc. during the festival (12th - 21st July).

  • Experience of managing several social media platforms at once and maintaining visual/written continuity throughout.

  • To be based in the North West within easy commuting distance to main festival areas.

In addition:

We will reimburse reasonable travel expenses during the festival period and meetings beforehand upon production of receipts.

We will reimburse reasonable lunch expenses during the 10 days of the festival upon production of receipts.

You will receive a PR workshop session with our PR company Fourth Day PR to help develop festival strategy and increase your PR and social media skills.

To Apply:

Apply via the CuratorSpace form.

Interview dates: Central Manchester, either 3rd/4th April 2019 - must be available on one of these dates.
