SUDDENLY:Mushrooms is a biannual digital publication interested in creating dialogues. It seeks out material of human expression: video evidence, photography, written word, drawn word, spoken image, music, noise essays, comics, illustrations, and stuff we don't even know of. For our second issue of 2019, we're interested in material on the theme of Catalysts.

We're looking for beginnings, starts, sparks of revolution, voices of dissidence, how political madness took place, and where history began. As stretched and interpretative a definition as the concept of "catalyst" can be. We want you to make us go "damn, we didn't even think of that".

Issue 2, CATALYDD will be available for free online to all.

SUDDENLY:Mushrooms, Vol 1, Part2: Catalydd

Earlier this year, Ffangaí published Part 1 of the first Volume of SUDDENLY:Mushrooms to great aplomb. Off of it, some collaborations have started taking place, and new eyeballs reached.

But what is SUDDENLY:Mushrooms?

A real thing to get people excited about. A project people can feel they have helped created. A platform to democratize alternative voices. SUDDENLY:Mushrooms is a platform to create ongoing intersectional conversations and to strengthen international connections, using themes of certain cultural and modern significance as the spark in the fuel tank. We work so that many peoples can talk to one another: Artists and the communities they interact with, scientists and the audiences they don’t know they have, immigrants and emigrants, internet-based experiences and physical realities… And just about any sort of interaction you and we can think of.

Part 2 will be published in August 2019, and we're giving you all a wider window to contribute content to the second part of this volume. As you can find in the back of Part 1: Surgued, the title of Part 2 is "CATALYDD: catalysts, beginnings and boot-up sequences". As such, we're interested in the following:

  • Any interpretation of the idea of “catalyst”. If you can defend the tenuous relationship between the word and the piece you submit, we'll accept it.
  • Work that is actively creating a dialogue with work that was published in Vol 1, Part 1: Surgued. Please refer to the previous issue of SUDDENLY:Mushrooms. It can be your own work you're creating a dialogue with, or another artist's.
  • Political catalysts, beginnings, origins, and new ideas existing in the current social discourse wherever you are from and at.
  • The idea of Life juxtaposed to the concept of Death
  • The beginnings of a new project, collaboration, venture or idea.
  • Anything that is a "start, a beginning, or an acceleratory process".

If you would like to make a connection with a previously published artist towards a collaboration, let us know.

Thank you for your time and can't wait to see what you contribute with!
