The Art House are offering four micro-commissions for early-career artists. We are inviting proposals from artists based in Wakefield and West Yorkshire. The work will be showcased at The Art House as part of Wakefield Artwalk on the 31st January 2019.

The Art House is supporting early-career artists in 2018/19 to create work through four micro-commissions. These may be a complete project or as a precursor or preliminary stage for larger or future projects. Works produced as a result of these micro-commissions will be shown at The Art House in January 2019.

We welcome applications from artists working in any medium, including performance, film and socially engaged practice. We are also interested in works and projects which respond to the local context of Wakefield or West Yorkshire.

After the initial proposal stage, selected artists will have the opportunity for group crits and one-to-one mentoring from The Art House team, dependent on their needs and practice.

Artists selected will show their work at The Art House during the Artwalk on January 31st 2019.

What We Are Offering:

  • An artists’ fee of £250
  • An additional materials budget of £200
  • Access to group crits and mentoring from The Art House
  • Support with your artist’s statement, applying for funding, and other practical aspects of developing as an artist

The Art House

The Art House provides time, space and support for artists and associates to develop their critical practice and professional careers. Everyone is welcome to experience contemporary visual art and learn about the practice of being an artist through a year-round programme of exhibitions and events. The Art House is a visual arts development agency and registered charity established in 1994 in response to the lack of facilities for disabled visual artists. We are now an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation dedicated to supporting artists and showcasing their work. We have a fully accessible building with 50 artist’s studios, exhibition spaces, and on-site accommodation, and run a year-long programme of process-focussed residencies and support schemes alongside our public events.
