The Hepworth Wakefield will be celebrating its 15th birthday with a brand-new event in its fair and markets calendar. The Hepworth 'Makefield' Market, taking place on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 May, 10am - 5pm, will celebrate the best of Yorkshire, from craft and design to food, drink and handmade goods from across Wakefield and the region.

To ensure a celebratory birthday weekend, The Hepworth 'Makefield' Market will also include family activities in the galleries and garden, live music and street food - with two brand new exhibitions opening that weekend too.

Applications are now open for makers based in Yorkshire.

We are seeking applications from makers whose work demonstrates quality, originality and represents the best of our region.

This includes, but is not limited to, independent makers specialising in craft, design-led products, homeware, prints, textiles, and thoughtfully produced food and drink.

A special preview evening will be held on Friday, 22 May to coincide with the private view and opening party for our new exhibitions.

Application will close at midday on Monday, 16 March.

Costs:

  • Standard stall: £200 including VAT (220 x 150cm with optional trestle table).
  • Fees must be paid in advance to guarantee a place. Makers selected for participation will be informed of payment deadlines. 
  • Fees support the running of the fairs and markets programme and The Hepworth Wakefield’s mission to create art experiences that inspire and enhance lives.


The market will take place in Tileyard North, the refurbished mill opposite The Hepworth Wakefield. 

Stalls will be set up the day before the market opens. The space is fully indoors with access to toilets, WIFI and electricity.

Accessibility:

The event space is fully accessible to anyone with mobility requirements and is on the ground floor with full access and toilet facilities.

If you have any concerns about your stall and have access requirements, please let the market organisers know.

Applicants will be notified of the results of the market week commencing 16 March.

Stallholders will be selected by a panel to ensure a balanced, high-quality market that reflects the breadth of contemporary making in the region.

Who is eligible for this opportunity?
We welcome applications from early-career through to established artists that are based in Yorkshire.

This standard-size stall offer an ideal space to showcase your designs and you can use display techniques such as tabletop racks or rails.

What is the date and time of the Makefield Market?

Where is the Makefield Market taking place? And does the location have disabled access?
The Hepworth Makefield Market will take place in Tileyard North, the converted mill space adjacent to the gallery. Stalls can be set up the day before the market opens. The space is fully indoors with access to toilets, WIFI and electricity.

What press and marketing will The Hepworth Wakefield undertake?
Exhibitors will be prominently listed on The Hepworth Wakefield’s website and promoted through a variety of content on the gallery’s sector-leading social media platforms: Instagram (106k followers); Facebook (32k followers), as well as in regular e-newsletters sent to our Members, Patrons and email subscribers.

The Hepworth Wakefield has a strong track record of securing media coverage for its fairs and markets, offering a further opportunity to profile participants. Media coverage received for previous fairs included Crafts Council, Elle Decoration, The Guardian, Time Out, Wallpaper* and Yorkshire Post. 
Do I need to attend both days of The Makefield Market?
Yes, due to logistics we can only accept stallholders that can attend both days of the Makefield Market.

Stallholders are expected to look after their stall at all times during the event. We would suggest bringing an additional person to help cover breaks (staff are unable to help with your break cover).
Do I need insurance?
Yes, all stallholders must have Public Liability insurance to the value of £5 million (in date during the market).
How much time do I have to set up my stall?
Stallholders will have access on Friday 22 May and the morning of Saturday 23 May. Further details will be sent to stallholders in advance of the event.
How are stallholders selected?
Stallholders are selected by a panel comprising The Hepworth Wakefield team members with comprehensive experience in curating, exhibiting, promoting, commissioning and retailing work by artists and makers at all levels of experience.

Exhibitors are selected to ensure that The Hepworth 'Makefield' Market presents a range of products, working at a range of levels and from all professional and educational backgrounds.

As our Makefield Market is celebrating The Hepworth Wakefield's 15th Birthday, our panel will select stallholders that are based in Wakefield and Yorkshire.
How will I know if I have been shortlisted as a Stallholder?
Our panel will meet week commencing 16 March 2026 to discuss all submissions. Staff will contact all makers via email from this point onwards. Staff will not provide feedback on unsuccessful submissions.
