Open call for Artists to apply to exhibit at The London Ultra 2019 @Bargehouse, OxoTower Wharf, London. Organised and curated by The Free Painters & Sculptors.

The Free Painters and Sculptors are delighted to announce the second London Ultra

An Art Extravaganza providing a transformative art experience. It’s an exhibiting opportunity like no other – not to be missed! Ultra welcomes the bravest and the best; it celebrates innovation and excellence in Contemporary Art and promises to be enthralling and thought provoking at every turn. Ultra stands true to the Free Painters and Sculptors manifesto in encouraging ‘Freedom in the Arts’ in its widest sense and allows artists and creatives working in any medium, on any theme to submit. (Exhibiting fees apply)

Submission is free. This is a competitive multinational open call. In addition to exhibiting conventional works 2d, 3d, etc there are also several additional options for Installation spaces, Artists’ Showcases, Art Experiments and 4 Artist in Residence spaces. This year there is a new option to submit work for any of 4 themed spaces: 1. Luminism (AV and illuminated Art) 2. The Artists’ Garden 3. Art Bottles 4. Gaia’s Room (after James Lovelock)

Costs

  • Submission is free
  • £100 per linear metre hanging space
  • £100 per plinth or free standing sculpture
  • £100 AV /Light based works
  • £40 for each Art Bottle.
  • £50 per sq m for Installations/ Artists showcases. (range: 2-40sqm)
  • Artists in Residence fees will depend on size of space (range: £200-£600)
  • Performers - no charge.

 Ultra is set in one of the most iconic and atmospheric old industrial spaces in Central London : Bargehouse OxoTower Wharf, Bankside, SE1 9PH.

Preview & Halloween Party: Thursday 31st October 18.30 - 21.30 (By Invitation)

Performances and Events timetabled at the preview and over both weekends.

Cash prizes this year include: The Roy Rasmussen Award (£1000) | The London Ultra Art Prize (£1000) | The Under 30 Ultra Prize (£750)

How much does it cost?

Does the location have disabled access?
There is a stair-lift which provides access for wheelchair users (at own risk) to the first and second floors only.
Model: STANNAH Stairiser SR The stair-lift is for standard manual wheelchairs only. It cannot be used with motorized chairs or scooters. It can also not be used for standing on.
The standard weight load for the lift is 150kg with a maximum load capacity of 225kg.
What publicity will be provided as part of the opportunity?
SM :Instagram, Facebook, etc
In view of the 11 day run we are also planning some printed media coverage
Printed Posters in the vicinity of OxoTower Wharf and Gabriel's Wharf
Fliers will also be distributed.
Do I need to be present?
Yes, a minimum of 3 half day invigilation sessions are requested for each exhibiting Artist.
The 4 Artists in Residence must be present daily.

How do you decide on proposals?
Small selection committee of Senior members. Selection will be based on merit.The panel will meet several times over the Summer and selection will take place in several stages.
What happens if my proposal is chosen?
Majority of selection results will be sent out by e mail.
Some Artists will receive direct phone calls where discussion of proposals and exhibits is required.
Latest date for all Artists to receive notifications is Monday 30th September
What kind of proposals are you looking for?
Work can be any theme , any media. All artworks and proposals will be considered. Also Artists may apply for Artists' Showcase spaces, Installation spaces, Artists' experiments. There are 4 spaces on offer for Artists in Residence. Fine Art Performers pay no exhibiting fees and are asked to perform on the preview evening and at least once more timetabled on the intervening weekends. There is also an option to submit work for nay of 4 themed spaces: 1. Luminism (AV and light art to be displayed on the entire 4th floor 2. The Artists' Garden 3. Art Bottles ( Artists' own bottles suspended from grids on ceilings) 4. Gaia's Room (after James Lovelock.)
What are the selection criteria?
The work must be original, contemporary and well made.
