A selling group exhibition celebrating artists connected to Yorkshire.

Artists who were born, live, work or study in Yorkshire (currently or in the past) are warmly invited to submit for The Mercer Open. The submission fee is £15 and covers up to three pieces of work for the selection panel to consider. All submissions must be made online via CuratorSpace and the deadline is midnight on Sunday 31 July 2022. If the fee is a barrier that will stop you submitting please contact the curator via CuratorSpace.

The exhibition will be held at The Mercer Art Gallery in Harrogate, 17 Sept 2022 - 8 Jan 2023 and the opening hours are Tues – Sun, 10am-4pm.

As a selling show all works must be for sale with a price point between £100 and £10,000. The Mercer will take 50% commission on all sales so please account for that when pricing your work.

We will be selling off the wall. This means that not everything will be exhibited at the same time. Works will be replenished as artworks sell, this means buyers are able to take their purchase home straight away and it gives visitors incentive to make repeat visits. If you have multiple pieces selected for the exhibition they may not all be displayed at the same time.

We envisage an incredibly eclectic exhibition celebrating a range of themes, styles and mediums. We can accept wall-based work in any medium, free standing sculpture and ceramics. We are unable to accommodate digital works, projections, live art or sound pieces. Wall based works will need to come with mirror plates attached. For ease of transportation please feel free to turn the mirror plates inwards and our technician will flip them during the instal. Wall based works arriving without mirror plates will not be accepted.

Artists are responsible for delivering their work to The Mercer Gallery (31 Swan Rd, Harrogate HG1 2SA) on Fri 9 Sept or Sat 10 Sept, 10am-4pm. If you choose to use a courier works can arrive 10am-4pm from Tues 6 Sept and must be received by 4pm on Sat 10 Sept. Please note that whilst we can accept incoming works via courier, we will not ship unsold works to return them. The artists or a representative will need to collect any unsold works on Sun 8 Jan, 4-6pm or on Tues 10 Jan, 10am-4pm from The Mercer Gallery.

There will be an opening event on Fri 16 Sept, 5-7pm and a closing event on Sunday 8 Jan, 4-6pm. The closing event offers an opportunity to meet other artists and also to collect any unsold work. Further information will be sent to artists who have works that have been selected for the show.

If you are considering making a submission, please read through the FAQs as there is some additional information provided there.
