Hi folks ... and apologies for the lumpiness and mystery as this is my first involvement with Curator Space! In short, I have spent 20 years and all my spare cash putting together the largest and finest collection of (thousands of) limerick verse books from as early as 1820 and all manner of 'limeribilia' besides such as audio, postcards, board games, napkins, cuttings, magazine articles and even some limerick toilet roll (for goodness sake!) and thousands of research records. The ultimate dream is to create a live, fun and physical museum, however for now, the intermediary stage is to catalogue and digitally display this celebration of the humble 'people's poetry'.

Limericks may seem a somewhat ordinary subject for a community of artists!  Well believe me folks, it ain't easy to write a good one and their history is not only fascinating but shrouded in mystery and charts social development across the past 200 years.  Limericks are indeed the quintessential British verse form and surely are the 'People's Poetry'.  They provide a manageable intro to poetry for young people and entertain the high brow talents (and everyone in betwen) too!  Surely we should celebrate this humble fellow?!

This project may offer opportunities to English language / literature course providers and students alike, also to those interested in librarianship along with digital media, in particular the methods of presentation of a huge amount of material.  I am currently seeking grant funding to assist the digitization of the archive, however this is a work in progress as early attempts indicate that greater collaboration is sought by funders ... and this project could be just that.  The work for this phase will entail much cataloguing and scanning / photographing plus uploading to a virtual facility as this evolves.

The collection is currently in the Teesside area and workspace and collaborators are initially sought there or as close-by as practicable.
